question about addons - yes i just bought and i already have addonitis

I just got word that i made it through ROFR on 50 points at OKW. I wanted to get my foot in the door and be able to stay DVC at least a little to try out the resorts and see if i wanted to invest further. Hubby and I are very interested in 100 points at BLT of course we know that they don't sell that, but now that I own 50 at OKW does that mean that I can add on 100 points at BLT or can i only add on at my home resort? i know it will be more pp to just do 100 points (120 i think instead of 112 from what i understand) I have been looking at the resale market for the 100 points but those contracts come up few and far between and I really need a august/sept use year to best suit my travel.

Can i add on at BLT if i own at OKW or will i have to go resale and wait for it to turn up? I can afford 100 points now (cash... dvc being a luxery i am just not comfortable buying it on credit), if i want 160 i will have to wait another year and also, i don't really need 160 points, we only vacation every other year and sometimes every 3 so between the 50 at okw and the 100 at blt we would have 300 points available to us every other year (i like split stays) so i really don't need more than the 100. thanks so much!

You can certainly call Disney and do a 100 point add on at BLT..This is sort of what I did..I bought a small OKW to get in the system for under 160 and to have a members window at buying VGC. It worked out very well..as soon as VGC went on sale, I bought 60 and 65, and just added on 50. Now I'm selling my OKW. I think it will be easier at 7 months to get SOMETHING at WDW since I really don't care where I stay.

If you keep the same Use Year as your OKW contract you may add-on through Disney at 25 pt or 50 pt minimum add-on purchase. If you want a different Use Year month then you will need to buy in at the minimum that a first time purchaser would because Disney would treat the purchase as an entirely new contract and not as an add-on to your initial purchase.

As a member you can now by add-ons directly through Disney at 25 pts minimum with cash or 50 pt min if you want financing through Disney at any resort not just at your home resort; or you may buy at any amount above these minimum ( 32, 44 etc & upward with cash / 51, 59 etc & up with financing) If you do buy at a different DVC resort you can combine those points with your OKW points to make reservations at 7 month window ( at months 11 mos - 7mos +1 day before checkin date you want points can only be used to book at the resort they are tied to so every other year you can book with 100 pts at this window at OKW with your OKW pts and 200 pts at this window with BLT points at BLT but at 7 month window opening if you want to try to have your entire reservation at BLT you can see if there is availability at BLT & use those 100 OKW pts there, etc. or try for any other DVC resort as well ).

Looks like i will be adding in in june of this year then probably i have a june use year at okw so it isn't far off what i want in july unless i get luckey and find a resale. I won't be going to disney at least another year because i'm pregnant and i can't imagine taking an infant, but even with a trip so far off it still gets me excited lol

If you can purchase add-on before June you will get the current Use Year (2009) allotment of points :
your Use Year is June and you do your add-on in June you will get June 2010 UY allotment of points

BUT if you call Disney and arrange the add-on prior to June 1 2010 then you will also get June 2009 Use Year allotment of points as well which would be the way to do things imho, why forfeit 2009 Use Year points if you can do add-on purchase a bit earlier than June. You can then bank that June 2009 UY allotment of points into June 2010 UY and that can be used from 6/1/2010 through 5/31/2011. Then on June 1 2010 you will receive 2010 Use Year allotment of points.

I did just that last year. Closed on my 50 point VWL resale and then called Disney 5 days later to add on at BLT.

As PP said, if you are planning on adding on in June/July anyway, I would call and do it prior to June 1st to get those 2009 points. It won't cost you any more to get them and having an extra 100 points seems like a great thing!

We bought a 50 pt resale at VWL last month. The very day that we got confirmation that the title was in our name my wife called member services and did a 30 pt. addon.

Watch out, addonitis is very contagious

Definitely buy in May if you have a June UY to get the 2009 points. They will allow them to be banked even though you would be past the banking deadline. Those points will not have any annual dues so they are "free". Your 2010 points will have annual dues prorated from the date of your purchase so you'll only have to pay a little more than 1/2 of the fees for those points. Currently if you buy 100 points you receive $6 off the $120/pt.
