Question about adding on points?

I see a lot of people adding on small packages to their account to be able to stay at say, BWV. We are getting a contract at OKW and would like to be able to stay at BWV eventually. In an add-on contract, do you need to have the amount of points to stay, or can you say buy a 25 point contract to get into BWV?
Thanks a lot!

You need enough points to stay, booking at 11 months at your home resorts. You can combine your points from different home resorts to book at 7 months.

Owning a contract at any DVC resort offers the 11 month reservation priority to reserve at that resort using the points in that contract. At 7 months, you can make reservations at any DVC resort - based on availability.

Buying a 25 point BWV contract would allow you to use those 25 points 11 months before your arrival date to make a reservation. By using banking and borrowing, you could have up to 75 points every three years to use for a BWV reservation made 11 months before arrival.

At 7 months, the 25 BWV points may be combined with your OKW points to be used at any DVC resort.

Thank you guys!

It may be something we look into in the future. We could use the 75, and buy an extra point.

just remember that if you need to buy an extra point or so, you can only do that at the 7 month window.

If you will need more than triple the number of points you own for a once-every-three-years reservation, I'd suggest buying a few more points than you "think" you'll need right from the start - say 30-50 instead of the minimum 25 if that will cut it close for a stay. The one-time-use-points are only available to make a reservation at 7 months .

Enjoy!

By the time we get to that point, the rooms would be well over 76/week. :P

I ADOOORE the Boardwalk. I essentially grew up at the Southern NJ shores and it reminds me so much of home. Not sure if the boss (fiance) would like it.

Another option would be to get enough points to stay at least a few days every year and then do a split stay between both home resorts.

We just added on 55 BWV points for the 11 month booking priority especially for F&W time (and especially to get standard view). We can bank and/or borrow to get a longer stay or a larger room but currently our plan is to do 4 nights in a standard view studio during F&W...could even do all 5 weeknights if we wanted (at 10 points per night...hence the reason we bought 55, the 5 extra was to keep our total divisible by 3 for our 3 kids).

Sorry, but you confused me. I don't see how 55 is evenly divisible by three, or how that has anything to do with how many points you buy?

Estate planning. Although, you're correct about the math.

Our total is now 480 which is divisible by 3...when we just added the 55 BWV points we wanted 50 to get 5 weeknights or 4 nights with weekend in a standard view studio for F&W. The extra 5 we tacked on was to keep our total...which was 425...divisible by 3. Guess I should have mentioned our total in my previous post.

Just being curious and maybe to do as you for our own estate planning, can you share what's your plan for splitting your points? I see you own 4 home resorts and maybe more contracts.

Thanks!

Well...I am trying to figure that out as we plan to add onto the BWV points. Here is what we have:
200 OKW June UY
50, 50 and 25 HHI Aug UY
100 AKV Aug UY
55 BWV June UY

What I am thinking is 2 posibilities. One is DH and I use 200 per year and we let each kid use 100 per year. We'd have to sell the 25 HHI pointer and add 45 to BWV (or we could keep the 25 HHI and add 70 to BWV and 25 to AKV...giving each kid 125 per year...yeah, I like that). DH and I are just 40 so we may outlive the expiration of 3/4 of the resorts. We could just maintain and dish out points to our kids. Then itvmight just ne the AKV left when we are gone so we would have to figure that out down the line.

We also could add on 145 points to our June UY for 400 total for our twin girls to have someday...200 OKW to one and the other 200 to the other. Then we'd still have to sell the 25 HHI pointer and give the Aug UY to our DS...though he would get AKV which has a longer life. Not sure which way we will go.

OK - That makes sense - thank you for clearing that up for me. :thumbsup2

The minimum add-on directly from Disney is 25 points if paying cash, 50 points if financing but you can buy whatever number of points you need. For example if you really need 26 points rather than 25 to be able to book that every third year 76-point stay at 11 months out, you can buy a 26-point add-on. You would end up with 2 points left over that could only be used 7 months out for something else so it's possible those 2 points would go to waste some years. On the other hand, it can be a good idea to buy a few points more than you need given the possibility of future point re-allocations.
