Question about adding on points - 2 "home resorts"

This may seem like a silly question (which is fitting coming from me) but if you add on points at a resort that is different from where you already own, can you use them both when making one reservation?

Example, we own 160 at AKV, if we add (from resale market) 160 at OKW, would we be able to use all 320 points on one reservation at AKV say, 11 months in advance or would we have to wait till 7 months out in order to use all the points?

Thanks!

Points always retain their home resort status so you could not combine them at 11 months. You could at 7 months. If the contract were the same UY and titled the same then it would be under the same membership and easy to use points from either contract or combine them at 7 months.

Some who buy at a 2nd resort also use banking and borrowing to increase the number of home resort points available.

For example, some might bank the OKW points and then borrow AKV points to give them 320 points to use one year at one resort and then the same at the other resort, alternating every other year.

The home resort booking window (from 11 months to 7 months plus one day from check-in) should be called the home resort points booking window. If you want to book AKV 11 months out, only AKV points can be used for that reservation. They can be your own points or AKV points transferred in to your account from another AKV owner but only AKV points will do. The phrase "home resort booking window" makes it sound like as long as AKV is your home resort, you get to book there 11 months in advance regardless of which points you want to use but that's not the case.

At 7 months from check-in, points from any resort can be used to book any resort so you could use your OKW points to try to book AKV, depending upon availability.

You'd have to wait until the 7 month window as stated to combine the points for a stay. Only home resort points get the home resort booking window.

We do what was previously said, we use banking and borrowing to use the booking window in every other year patterns. We will bank this years BLT points and borrow some 2013 to get a one week MK view for the 2012 Christmas season.

That will leave the BWV points to do with what we want through a similar process.

we've borrowed on our BWV contract to do as others said (funny, i don't think we've ever banked BWV points in 10+ years:rolleyes1). since oct is such a busy time for EPCOT resorts, we do that as needed to get in at 11 months.
for our may trips (a less busy time), we book as many nights as possible usining BWV points at 11 months, then call at 7 months to use our BCV and SSR points.

normally, it all works out :)

I do the banking method too. Last year I banked my BLT points and will be using them in August. I also banked my BWV points and used them for my May and Oct trips. My SSR contract is large, so used that one mostly last year. I have 3 homes so strategize often, but we also take 4 trips a year.

Yep, we've been doing the same thing with our DVC and Wyndham timeshare. Pretty much we get to stay every other year at Wyndham Bonnet Creek and the other year we choose where to stay at DVC. We have been fortunate that when we do choose to make reservations, we haven't had a problem (mostly we go during non-peak anyway to avoid the crowds). The DW and I are hoping to save enough points for a quick trip (just the two of us) for the Food and Wine Fest. When we do look to add on, it just pays to be informed.

We are so excited to be leaving on Friday for our first trip w/o the kids in four years! We could have gone just about anywhere and where did we choose? Disney of course!
