Question about adding extra day to tickets

Hey guys,

My friend and I are heading to Disney from September 20-29 and have a 6 day ticket with park hopper purchased through the free dining promotion. All of our fastpass selections are made for the 6 days we have tickets (September 22-28, excluding the 23). We are now also planning on hitting the parks on the 21 and will have to add an extra day to our ticket package, and I have two questions:

1.) Can we add the extra day to the ticket before first use and still only pay the minimal difference in price between a 6 and 7 day ticket (somewhere around $10 per person i believe)?

2.) If we can't add the ticket before first use (without paying full price for an additional park ticket) and opt to use one day of our tickets on September 21 and then add another day later, would this result in losing our fastpass selections for another day? For example, if we use a ticket on the 21, we would at that point only have 5 days remaining, but fastpasses booked for 6 more days. I'm concerned that MDE would immediately notice the discrepancy and automatically cancel fastpasses for one of our initially planned park days before we get a chance to add an extra day to our tickets.

I hope this makes sense, and any insight would be much appreciated!

Yes you can call Disney and ask to add one more day onto your park hopper ticket.

MDE only allows you to make FP+ reservations for the number of valid ticket days you have linked to your account. This means you will not be able to add a 7th day of FP+ with a 6 day ticket. If this ticket was purchased as part of a package you may be able to call and have the package upgraded to 7 day tickets.

If this ticket was purchased by itself you can not upgrade it until first use. That can be done at guest relations at the parks or at the desk of your hotel, and yes this will only cost you about $10 a person in either case

If that is the case you have two options. The first is to make your FP+ selections day of in the park for the 21st. The second is to cancel the FP+ reservations for another day and replace them with the selections for the 21st. If you go this route, choose the day with the easiest to get reservations to cancel, for example, don't cancel SDMT or A&E etc, pick a different day. Then on the 21st, once you upgrade your ticket, you can make new selections for the day you canceled. That will at least give you a couple days to get something.

Hope that is helpful.

EDIT: I just reread the post and saw your tickets are part of FD package. You should call and try to have the package upgraded, and ignore the second half of my post.

Thank you for the helpful replies you guys!

Yes, we did book a package so I will and see if they can help over the phone. If they can't, I will cancel another day with fastpass selections and book some for the 21!

Here's an extra twist!

We are going to buy MNSSHP tickets for September 27. Considering that you can get fastpasses between 4-7 on party days if you are entering the park with just a party ticket, could purchasing these theoretically allow us to add an extra day after initial use without losing any of our fastpass selections on other days, if we booked our fastpasses only between 4-7 on the day of the party?

I find myself in a similar situation. My family is on the free dining package as well. However, we are looking to upgrade only one ticket from a 6-day to a 7-day pass. Can this be done ahead of time, or would everyone in the package have to upgrade to 7-days? If so is the other option to upgrade that one ticket after the first use?

You should be able too, dining/room can't be different but tickets can. We've added more at the parks to someone if needed but don't see why you can't call now and do it.

Because your tickets are part of a package you will have to wait until after you arrive to upgrade just 1 ticket because prior to arrival all tickets in a package must be the same.

Hey again!

Just an update! I opted to cancel our fastpasses for September 27, the day we are going to the Halloween party, and booked them for the 21. I bought the party tickets today and was able to book fastpasses again for that day, and i got the exact fastpasses I cancelled, so it worked out perfectly! I will now just add the extra park day when we arrive! :)

I wait until we actually need it to add it. I've probably saved a few hundred dollars over multiple trips in tickets I didn't need and didn't buy. Fastpass is kind of messing that up so if that is important, obviously get it sooner than later.

Well with the fastpasses I was able to book after I purchased the party tickets today, we now have our fastpasses booked for all of our planned park days. When we initially booked our trip we were going to have another "non park" day, but that changed which is why we want to add the extra day now. I think we now have a pretty solid schedule planned that works for us! :)
