Hi -

In light of this "$95 per point" raise taking place soon, my husband and I are thinking about adding on (we probably would have done it sooner or later, but don't want to wait now because of the price increase). I seem to remember somewhere that we cannot buy if we are in California (we would have to be physically present at WDW in order to buy). We have a trip planned, but not until END of May. By that time the price will have increased already. Is it true that we cannot buy "by mail" in California, and if so, is there anything I can do to get those points at the lower rate? (I was thinking that if I called my guide and told him we were coming to purchase in late May, but maybe paid earnest money or something, is there anyway they would lock in that price but let us sign the papers when we were there in late May).

Also - when you buy resale, do you have to have a bank check, or can you charge on a credit card?

Thanks for any help you can give.

When the BCV started selling they held the price for New York residents when they raised the price for everyone else because New York hadn't apporved the sale yet. I would call and try to get someone who could tell you whether they could hold the price for you or not until you get there.

When you buy a resale, they don't accept credit cards.

Good luck,

HBC

Thanks for the info, HBC.

Anyone out there know if I can buy a Saratoga add on while I am here in California?

I can't believe add ons at the other resorts are going to go up to $95 per point! We really want to add on at VWL, but we are debating going with Saratoga because of the longer period of the contract.

Jenn,

We did just that last summer! We wanted to purchase some BWV points before they ran out and our guide said that we could not purchase by mail. He wrote our contract, charged a deposit on our credit card and then held the contract until we were in Florida. Our trip was a couple of months after we called, so we just scheduled a day and time to stop in and sign and pay the balance during our trip. The price should be "held" for you also.

HTH - Call & see what they say. Let us all know how it goes.

Thanks, Deb! It seems so silly that you cannot buy in California.... oh well. I left a message for our guide, Darren Greenwald. I will let you know what he says.

I am still wrestling with the idea of buying at Saratoga vs. VWL (if I could get points there resale).... tough decision. We have 300 BCV points now, and I think we want to add on 150 or 160 more.

I will let you know how it turns out.

From what my guide tells me, they cannot even talk to folks who are in CA, WA and other states where they are not registered. Here is what the site says if you plug in CA as your state:
Disney Vacation Club is a vacation ownership product and is therefore subject to the regulatory laws of the state, province, or country in which you reside. We can therefore send information through the mail or speak via the telephone to only those guests who reside in jurisdictions that have given us permission to discuss the various benefits of Disney Vacation Club membership.

Unfortunately, you reside in a jurisdiction where Disney Vacation Club is not registered.
I expect one way around this might be to call from your cellphone pirate: and tell them you're currently in a state that is registered (most of the east coast and midwest, also Alaska). They still won't be able to do the add-on by mail, but they would be able to talk to you and perhaps grandfather your purchase until you get there in May.

Just a thought.

Hi all,

We live in NV and there is absolutely no way for them to sell to us here either, due to our laws. We didn't even get a notice when everyone else did that there were more BWV points for sale.

What we did for our add-on, instead of traveling to Florida, was give my sister in MO a one-time Power of Attorney to complete this transaction in our names for us. Worked out great with no hassle at all.

By the way, they CAN sell add-on's to you in California. That was one suggestion our Guide had for us. (We are in the Tahoe area, so right on the border of NV/CA) She said they do something weird with use years there, though. It ended up there was no availability in California inventory for our use year, but in general availability there was. I can't quite remember the reasoning but it did have something to do with the funky CA timeshare laws.

Hope this helps!

Tracy

Perhaps they will let you charge the purchase, but hold the documents until you get there. I was amazed to find that you can charge your purchase--I just paid off a contract that way, and am waiting to see those points added to my charge account. I can get a free ticket down to WDW!

lesroi - you are absolutely right about the amount of add on points for CA. When we wanted to purchase BWV there were only 97 points, we wanted 100. Our guide said that because of the CA laws, there were only 97 CA points, but others were available.

He suggested that we write the contract for 97 and then he redid all of the paperwork when we got there for 100 points. It still held our points/price until we could get there. We could have also changed resorts at that time while holding the price!

We also paid for our points with a credit card (Disney Visa). I figured it was kind of like getting a little discount.

Let us know how it all turns out.
