I have noticed that many of you have gotten discounts by being a AAA member. Is it worth being a AAA member to get these discounts. Also, we are planning a trip in May, could my dad who is a AAA member reserve a room in our name or does he have to be the one who stays there?

They do ask to see the card and may check the name.

I wouldn't risk it. I have been asked to show my AAA card.

I think AAA membership is worth it. When I first made our reservations at Portofino Bay for our trip next month, the AAA rates were not available, so I made the reservation ($299) per night hoping to get the AAA rate later. When the AAA rates were released, I was able to change the reservation to $227 per night, so I would say it is definitely worth it. Obviously, the AAA card is used for other things during the year (including 10% discount at many of the restaurants at Citywalk and some of the shops too).

I also used AAA for our reservations at WDW for our trip. I saved there as well.

for me the AAA card is well worth it.

in chicagoland area i pay $54 a year for the membership.
besides the discount at universal and its hotels, i get benefits year round in other ways.

think snow up north............towing service, flat tires changed, run out of gas, use AAA and they bring you a gallon for you to get to a service station.

they have AAA travel agents that can plan your trips, make your ressies, etc

for road trips, AAA will send you maps, routes for your travel.

many resturants and motels do promos with AAA

the cost of AAA membership varies depending on where you reside. i have heard of the membership cost $10 less outside of chicago

I have had AAA since I was 16 and would never be without it. Anytime you need roadside service, even if you have another service, most towing or assistant agencies have a deal with AAA and assist those customers first. Also discounts are available for so many places, even if they arent advertised I always say I've got AAA just in case and usually get some type of discount. :sunny: While AP is obviously a great deal for those who have it, AAA gives you discounts at almost every amusement park across the country (I have used it at Six Flags, Williamsburg, etc.)

Thanks for the replies. I think I am going to look into a AAA membership. The discounts they seem to offer sound great. Plus, we have had to have both mine and my DH's cars towed this year so maybe having a AAA membership could have helped in this area.

with my AAA, i get 4 tows a year with my membership.

i added the spouse and son to my AAA for only $10 more per person.
there was a sale on the internet and the start up fee was waived for us.

go for it, it is worth it

they map out a route for you when you travel........neato maps.....

I have a 6:00 AM flight out of Phila. this weekend. There is a Marriott right at the airport. I went to the website and the rate was $259 for the one night. I plugged in the AAA rate and it was $113!!!! That more than paied for my AAA membership. It is VERY useful!

We had 2 rooms for a week at GF and saved over $1000 with AAA rate!!! Membership is in my name and I reserved both rooms in my name. Didn't have membership when I booked hotel, but got it soon after and had to show card when we checked in.

:teeth: AAA is great. We pay $50 a year and it saves us plenty of cash. We saved over $500 on our upcoming June vacation at CR, AKL, and Portofino Bay.

AAA is well worth the cost. Just as everyone has said.

Hey ColoradoDisers, We're from Lakewood.
Looks like you're doing almost the same trip as we did in
04, we went AKL then PBH. If you're not doing club level at PBH ask to upgrade at check in. We did it for $60 a night last time and it was well worth it.

Good luck, YO

Hello Yo,
We're from Thornton. We already booked PBH Club. This will be our first time at Universal. I was hoping that Club was worth the extra money. :earsboy:

To book at the Universal Resorts do you have to book through a AAA TA in order to receive the AAA discount? Or do you have a promo code to use in order to receive the discount?

not necessarily.

i booked two different trips myself.
i called them one time and the other did it online thru the loews site.

on the website, i indicated AAA member and that was all i had to do to get it.
on the phone, told the clerk i needed the AAA discount as i was a member.

neither time was i asked for the membership number.
did not have to show the card when i checked in. they were busy at the front desk and i believe the employee forgot to ask to see it.

you can book the room with the AAA rate and not have the card at the time.
but do get it so if you need to show it for the discount, you will have it.

if you can not produce the AAA card, you could still have your room ressie but you would be charged the full rate then.

Can I get two rooms at the AAA rate? Do I get two welcome gifts with Loews First?
