Question about a Bruised Eye

Hi all!
I have a question regarding bruised eyes. My mom slipped and fell the other day and required 5 stitches above her eye (near the eyebrow). Due to her fall her eyelid is bruised and her actual eye underneath is really red. She would like the bruising to go away, and I have told her to put ice around the area and then use a warm compress 48 hours after the injury. Does anyone know of any other way to reduce the bruising?
