I'd like to take my son to the 50's Prime Time on our upcoming trip as he loves fried chicken, and I know the milkshakes would go over great. However, he has Asperger's Syndrome and will not understand the nature of the restaurant. Can I request at the podium that the waiter/waitress not "play" with us? I really need to know because I don't want him to be upset for the rest of the day if they scold him or whatever.

My son is 15 years old and is an Aspie. I completely get where you are coming from. BUT I have been taking DS to 50's every trip since he was 5. So about 11 trips so far. It is one of his favourite restaurants. The waiters and waitress will pick up on it. I promise. While they will give DH and I a sort of hard time, they rarely give DS a hard time. It isn't quite as fun as what the other tables are getting but he enjoys watching the antics. He also loves the fried chicken and the shakes. When you check in just request a "mild" waiter/waitress and explain if you are comfortable doing so. I have never had a problem here. Go, enjoy and have fun!

Another parent of an Aspie chiming in. My experience has been that servers do seem to recognize who does and does not want interaction. DD13 LOVES watching servers chastise the rest of us but would have a meltdown if she was scolded by a stranger even if called a cousin (we did have a chat before explaining that part of the theme of the restaurant included the CMs all having the title cousin so she wouldn't argue about the inaccuracy of that). We did have to quietly tell one cousin when he ordered our girls to set the table but after that he was fine. You should have seen her laughing as DH was force fed a piece of his dinner. Our cousin did the airplane noise and everything after calling everybody's attention to them. She was never teased.

Thanks for the replies! It sounds like they do a good job of feeling out who wants to play and who doesn't. Off to make a reservation now. :goodvibes
