I saw that the person who finished last ran the 15K in about 2 hours 40 minutes, which by my calculation (if I did my math right) is about a 17 minute mile. Don't they "sweep" you off the race if you can't keep up the 15 minute pace?

Usually, once you cross into Epcot, you can finish as long as you don't stop. So, she likely made the last sweep point and had a slow last mile or so. Also, they give you a little cushion for getting to the start. If it took fiv eminutes for everyone to get through the start line, they usually take that into account.

However, they were very strict with marathon this year, so you can't bank on the extra time.

Well considering I am going to need ALL my time they better give me 15 min per mile from when I cross the start or Disney and I will be having another fight. (I let a "suit" have it at the TOT last year LOL!)

I posted this on the Minnie thread, but I'll mention it here, also.

For those who are doing a more than 15 minute mile after the last sweep point and make it to EPCOT, they change the route. The original route crosses the International Bridge and then turns right to go past Italy, America, Mexico and then right again to the sphere. For the slower folks, they have you turn left into England, Canada and then you would turn left again to run to the sphere. You still got a medal, though!!! :goodvibes Anne

I saw her finish last year as a bunch of us WISH'ers hung around and cheered everyone in.

Also, she averaged 17 min/mile. She wasn't doing anything close to that when she crossed the finish line. Most of the last few people probably held a decent pace and "crashed" the last few miles where they lost all of their time.

So does that mean the slower people end up doing less?? Or is it the same distance?

That would make it less distance.

Yes, that would make it less distance by half a mile (guessing). ;) I'm sure the reason Disney did it was to get the racers OUT OF THE PARK and things cleaned up before the parks opened for guests. As one of the last WISHers, I always get to see the families heading for the princess character breakfast at Norway. :goodvibes

Thanks for all the information, everyone! You are all so nice!:)

I wish I had more time to spend on these boards!

I think I'll be able to manage a 13 ish min/mile, so I am feeling pretty good about the race.

We wish you had more tiem for us too! ;)

Sounds liek you shoud leven have time fro pix Amy! You are golden!
