Question about 10 year old

I have a question that I am really unsure about. We are leaving tomorrow for Disney and we do not have the dining plan. I finally called yesterday and made ADR's for 3 days. Well, when making the reservation for 3, dh, myself and 10 year old son they asked the age of my son, of course I said 10. She then informed that he had to order from the adult menu. Now I knew that if we bought the dining plan, we had to pay adult prices. I guess I didn't realize in restaurants such as Planet Hollywood and the Rain Forest Cafe that as a 10 year old, he would be unable to order off the kids menu, with us paying out of pocket. Has anyone enountered this?

He should be able to eat off of the child's menu anywhere but a buffet, but Disney Dining did tell me that it would be at the discretion of the waitress/waiter. I've ordered off of the children's menu myself with no problem.

My 11 year old has ordered off the children's menu at several Disney restaurants with no trouble. If you are at a buffet, character meal, or family-style all you can eat meal, your 10 year old will be charged the adult price even if they eat the kid's offerings. We ate at Rainforest Cafe last July and I believe he ordered off the child's menu with no problem. I just checked their webstie and it says the kids menu is for children 12 and under. Rainforest is not Disney-owned, so you won't have a problem there at all.

My 10 year old(well now 11) has eaten off the kids menu at most restaurants without an issue.

I've personally ordered of the kids menu before, I'm sure you'll be fine.

Most places will accommodate you and let him order off of the kids' menu, but I warn you that the kids' menu are not very good. When we took our 2 year old granddaughter last August, she had no problem eating her entire meal ordered from the kids menu (did not use DDP). The portions are small and the choices are few. Keep in mind that you can modify an adult meal as we have for our grandson (now 14). If there is an item that you don't like the sauce or sides, they will prepare it differently and change the sides. On my grandson's last trip he often got steak, with no sauces on it and generally french fries instead of the fancy mashed potatoes. The kids CS are probably the worse choices of all. Of course if our granddaughter (now 3) has a choice of chicken nuggets she would be happy with that every day.
