Queensland Floods

I'm not sure if everyone would have heard about this, but its supposed to be global news now. If you have't, google "qld floods" and you'll be able to see how bad it is. I'm terrible at explainig these kinds of things. basically, the state of QLD in Australia is experiencing extremely bad flooding right now. 9 people have been comfirmed dead and many are missing. There was one woman due to give birth any day now who is trapped. Please please please pray for this state. They are also collecting money for the relief efforts.

It is the lead story on CNN.cm right now--and it does sound terrible. I hope the many missing are found safe and that no further flooding occurs. I hope youa re safely in another area of the continent as well, OP.

Over 70% of the state is flooded! And to give you an idea how big the state is, it is bigger than Texas, California and France combined! There was a terrible flash flood in the ranges yesterday and many have died as there was no warning. Now the banks of the Brisbane River have broken and the city is expected to flood over the next couple of days. I also saw that 17 of the 23 dams in the state are already overflowing...

We are in Sydney which is in the state of New South Wales which is south of Queensland, there are areas in the north of our state starting to flood as well :-(

I'm in Sunshine Coast Queensland right now and it's a sad and scary situation. Luckily, we haven't flooded yet but tomorrow is supposed to be the worst of it. We've stocked up on food and had some friends over today who live on lower ground and will probably do the same tomorrow. We live in a higher level apartment right on the ocean - so I guess we should be ok but it is pretty scary right now, not knowing what's going to happen. I'm from Toronto and I've never in my life had to deal with a flood. Also it is SO sad watching the news and knowing just an hour away people have lost everything and children and others have died.

It's just horrible and I'm hoping the rain subsides and it doesn't end up being as horrible as it's supposed to be tomorrow.

Can you tell me how it is in Tweed Heads? I've been there twice over the last 3 years and have quite a few friends in that area - I e-mailed them last night but haven't heard back.

P.S - my main stay are when there is Mosman in NSW (by Sydney) - I've told my wife when I retire I'm snowbirding to AU.

It's so horrible. I work for news limited (the company that produces the herald sun, courier mail and daily tele newspaper among others) and I cried this mornig reading all the interstate papers. Im
From melbourne. They hve just downgraded the Brisbane flood warring from 6.5 meters to 6.2 but it's still very scary! My heart goes out to those in danger and whom have lost their homes. How very horrible.

It is just so unfair that the poem we all learned in school - "A sunburned country" including the Droughts & flooding rains has to come true for Queensland over the last couple of years.

After all of the water restrictions Qlders have had to put up with, now they have water in abondance but very little drinking water still.
