Hooray - got up bright and early, and on the phone and internet ready for the 10am start and got tickets for Birmingham NEC for May 6th!

We've seen them 10 times before - everywhere from Milton Keynes to Dortmund and couldn't pass up this opportunity to see the best live band in the world - even if Freddie isn't there.

What with this concert, Green Day in February and REM in July we are in danger of becoming groupies. :rockband: :rockband: :rockband:

Tammy

You are going to have a fab time :) We are off to see Green Day on Friday.

Moving this over to the Community Board for you.

Now for real :rockband: ...

Megadeth in Nottingham on Sat 5th Feb and Thin Lizzy in Brum on Sunday 6th. Reckon my head will still be throbbin' on Tuesday 8th when we fly to WDW :goodvibes:

Hey!! Another Lizzy fan!! If they're anywhere near as loud this time as they were back in Dec '03 then you'll have a buzz in your ears for the duration of your holiday! Can't recall anything like it before or since!! I'll be seeing them again in Belfast on the 17th so maybe you can whet my appetite ( as if it needs whetting any more!!) with a quick review of the Brum gig??. Now . . . if we only had a smiley with long blonde hair and a black Les Paul custom . . . .

By the way Andru, are you taking in the Motley Crue tour in June? Got tickets for the Glasgow gig!!

Tammy, I'm giving it a miss. Personally Queen died when Freddie died. It looks like John Deacon feels the same way.

They should have left well alone.

Sorry AndRu, saw Thin Lizzy twice in the days when Phil Lynott was still with us. A GREAT band, no doubt about that, but Queen were the greatest live act I've ever seen.
By the way, I once saw AC/DC (when Bon Scott was fronting) at Bristol Colston Hall about 6 foot from the speakers. I'm not sure that my ears ever recovered!

Music is such a personal thing, I suppose it's just what you like best.
I didn't know Thin lizzy were still touring. I'm going to have to check to see if they are anywhere close to us. What's the line-up these days?

John Sykes, vocals/lead guitar, Scott Gorham, lead guitar, Marco Mendoza, bass guitar and Tommy Aldridge, drums. Mendoza and Aldridge recently featured on Whitesnake's last UK tour.

I saw Thin Lizzy 7 times in the early 80's (along with all the other great metal bands that were touring) but I never did see Queen. I couldn't get past the er, trans-gender thing, and prefered my rock to have a more "macho" feel to it - each to his own!

I'm really looking forward to the Birmingham Lizzy gig. I know it could never be the same without Phil Lynott (RIP) but the songs and lyrics he wrote in his short life need to be played. The only thing I hope they don't do is Whiskey In The Jar, I know this is a folk song but the way PL sang this he made it his own. Anyone else singing it would sound wrong, in my opinion at least.

As for Motley Crue, after reading "The Dirt" I have to go and see them! Didn't know they had a UK tour this year, thanks for the heads up. I've just tried to book online at the NEC Arena but their site is down (probably for backups) so I'll try again in the morning.

Now the best live act I've ever seen - Slayer, Nottingham Rock City in 1988. they didn't come on stage until about 11pm and the crowd was well stoked up. By the time they hit certain, slightly agressive, tracks, the audience went into a kind of mass hysteria that I've never felt before or after. I came out of that gig feeling so pumped up it took me 4/5 hours to come back down. I've seen them many times since and never got the same buzz again - then again, I am nearly 38 with 3 kids and shouldn't really be in the mosh pit. But that matters not to me, whilst bands like Slayer, Motorhead, Megadeth, WASP, Anthrax, Thin Lizzy and the Crue are playing live, I'll be there moshing/head banging at the front!

We've got tickets for Motley Crue (Matt's favourite band) at the NEC. Original line-up, btw - looks as though Vince Neil and Tommy Lee have kissed and made up. And it's a 2 hour set - should be good!

AndRu - if you enjoyed The Dirt, you should read Tommy Lee's new (semi) autobiography Tommyland. Some surprising stuff (although most of it what you'd expect!)
