I was looking through Disney+ and found the movie Queen Of Katwe and from what I saw of it it's based on a true story of a girl who dreams of becoming a chess champion. Queen Of Katwe reminded me of Searching for Bobby Fischer and it looked like a great sports movie. Was Queen Of Katwe a failure for Disney when it debuted in theaters? Because it seems like one of Disney's unsuccessful movies

Despite strong critical reviews, Queen of Katwe did not do well at the box office, making about $10M total on a $15M budget. It would have needed $30M to be considered sucecessful.

Remember seeing it in the theatre, and really enjoyed it---- tragic as well, because the star of the movie, passed away at the age of 15

I loved this movie such a feel good story should have been promoted more!

I saw Queen in the theater and thought it was wonderful!
Kind of had a feel like the old Sunday night World of Disney movies when I was a child.
Million Dollar Arm and McFarland USA were also great stories that did not seem to get much love.
