Queen Elizabeth funeral and looking forward

I think the problem started that Andrew got a yes (maybe still from his mother) and Harry a no. That cannot be explained to the public, both a yes can be explained, both a no can be explained, but one yes the other no. That is a hard sell.

Even Piers Morgan wrote a column about, with the headline: Harry is selfish brat, but if Andrew gets to wear his uniform, then so should Harry.

This decision has its benefits, 1. Honouring your dead mother/queen/head of the military's last wish, 2. Possibly further restoring the bond between Harry and Charles. With that book still planned, the more Charles appears the bigger person, the better it is.

We are just talking a 15 minute vigil here, not the funeral itself.

Right, it's just 15 minutes. I just read that William and Harry will stand vigil on Saturday, and at the King's request both will be in uniform. Honestly, in my opinion, Harry should be able to wear the uniform as he didn't leave the family in disgrace. He gave nearly a quarter of his life to the military.

Anyway, back on topic....right now King Charles is accepting condolences from the Welsh Parliament. He and the Queen Consort met with people earlier and there was a jubilant atmosphere. It's nice to see him getting a warm welcome.

Are most here going to watch the funeral live? I'm planning on getting up early to see it...which brought back memories to me of me as a 14 year old girl. I was the only one in my household who was interested in seeing the wedding of Charles and Diana and so I set my alarm and got up at 4 am to see it...suppose that's where my fascination with the Royals began.

I wish I could watch the service live, but it's on Monday and I have to work.

My mom was really interested in the royals. We both got up to watch Charles and Diana get married. We got up early when Prince William was first presented to the public. We also both watched Diana's funeral. It's a shame I'll not be able to watch the service for the Queen.

For folks that can't watch live, I think the service should be available for viewing on YouTube. Likely on the Royal Family Channel, Sky News and maybe BBC and ITV.

I'm surprised at how big the Canadian delegation is! Current PM plus 4 former ones (I had to wrack my brain to figure out which 4 that would be since I thought Martin had passed....) plus the current Governor General and 2 former ones. And of course the Ambassador and Indigenous leaders.

Me too. I had previously heard that invitations were being limited to heads-of-state plus one; not to large delegations. It would be interesting to know if each of the persons in Canada’s contingent were personally invited by the Palace or if we were just allowed so many seats and somebody on our end made the decision. :scratchin

Maybe commonwealth countries get more?

That's possible. I believe that for the U.S. there will be no official delegation of our current President and former Presidents. I did read that former Presidents may get personal invitations. But so far I haven't heard of any such invitations being offered or accepted.

Probably not live, it will be 3am for me and as it is a Monday, I have to work. I'd like to watch it but that is really early for us West Coasters.

I was 9 when (then) Prince Charles and Lady Diana got married. I was spending the summer in South Africa with my family and we all watched it.

I think it starts around 2:00am where I live.
I will be setting my DVR - no way am I not watching this. I may not be from England, but that doesn’t stop me from having great respect for Queen Elizabeth. I feel like she was everyone’s Queen - great and lovely lady.

I am wondering, do you think there is somewhere out there an evil Disney manager who thinks: Silly Brits, those people shouldn't be in queues, they need to be in stores and restaurants spending money. People who queue don't bring in any money!

Apparently there's going to be a service here in the US next Wednesday.

I'll watch it live. I live on the West Coast, but plan to get up around midnight and watch the guests arriving and the whole thing. My nephew is doing the same and we'll be texting back and forth our observations.

I always do this for events in the UK -- marriages, funerals, etc. Sometimes my friend comes over to drink tea and we watch together.
I'm an Anglophile; what can I say?
