Queen Elizabeth funeral and looking forward

Yeah, I really wonder about that....whether even Charles and Anne were with her when she passed. Perhaps Anne was actually onsite at Balmoral....she seemed to be close to her Mother. And so I believe that certainly Anne may have been with her, or with her immediately after her passing. I think I read that Charles and Camilla were staying very nearby at another royal estate. Word went out over there around lunchtime (U.K. time) about the "concern" for her health....and I believe that by then she had passed. I really think that it was then about getting the rest of the children and certainly William there before the announcement was made. I believe those 6-7 hours were kind of a necessary thing for residents of the U.K. and really the world to prepare and kind of come to terms with the idea that the Queen had died. I know that as soon as I saw the news that I searched for and found several U.K. news outlets that were streaming live on Twitter that I could watch and listen to as I went about my day....because I guess I'm a bit of history buff and wanted to hear the news as it unfolded.

But I do think it's entirely possible that she died in her sleep from a catastrophic health event. We spent the day with my FIL yesterday to celebrate his 91st birthday. He's in great shape...still plays golf and everything. But he told us that every morning when he wakes up...that he's pleasantly surprised, but also that he prays that when he passes, that he just goes in his sleep. So, for the Queen's sake, and for that of her family....I hope that's how she went.
That's kind of how I saw it even as it was unfolding. I don't think even The Queen (strong as she was) has the ability to stave off death until the family gather. I have no doubt it was all very well orchestrated. And for her sake, I too hope it was some quick catastrophic event.

Why is that any of our business?

I think just as a matter of public record...we know how her father died and previous kings and queens as well. Perhaps we don't know in the immediate aftermath to afford the family a sense of privacy, but eventually, we will know and it will be recored as such in the historical record. Love her, hate her or anywhere in between, it's undeniable that she's one of the most important historical figures of the 20th and 21st centuries.

It shouldn't.
But in the light of the feud between William and Harry, I can imagine tabloids will do everything to find out. If the discussion whether or not Harry could take Meghan to Balmoral delayed the RF plane and because of this William and more importantly Edward and Andrew couldn't say goodbye to their mother... It will not really help for Harry to restore the bond between him and his family. The tabloids will have a field day.

Her beloved family spent time with her over this past summer at Balmoral. I think those times must have been most precious to her. At 96, it was obvious her days were gradually growing short. I hope the memories of that time together was a comfort to her and her family.
Knowing exactly which family members were there in her last moments seems a bit intrusive. To me it's a private matter.

So does anybody know if the service today in Soctland would have been held even if she hadn't died there?

But, to be fair, Georve VI passed away.....maybe not suddenly but much younger than people thought after a long illness. QEII was 96. And enjoyed marvelous health until very recently. No one would question an explanation of natural causes. Her death was shocking on an emotional level for many of us but really, it wasn't a surprise. We have been waiting for it for the last 10 plus years.

Very impressive they put this part together on such short notice.
There was a plan for when the Queen would die in Scotland, with the name Operation Unicorn.

Some newspapers report that it was likely that the Queen knew that she would not return this summer. Maybe some people in Scotland were more aware than others.

Or they had also practised Operation Unicorn from time to time.

It’s human nature to be curious about how and why someone died. No shame in it.

It’s natural to wonder in this case since just two days earlier she was up on her own accord greeting the new PM with a beautiful smile on her face. Certainly not imminent. Something happened between then and when she passed that, imo, was relatively unexpected.

Having cared for my own mother (who was the same age as QEII) at home into her mid-90s and taking care of people that age in the hospital for acute issues, it is often a fall that precipitates a catastrophic event. Studies have shown that head injuries after age 70 are associated with increased mortality rates. In someone’s 90s, it can be very bad news.

Of course there is also always the possibility of a stroke or something like that. In some ways it was probably a blessing that whatever it was happened quickly and there was hopefully a minimum of suffering, even if some of the family weren’t able to make it to her bedside before she passed. For that, I’m sure they’re all grateful.

Major Johnny Thompson has electrified twitter. People are happy Charles kept him on and has given him a prominent role . People started noticing him at the Jubilee. BBC has interviewed him too.

Okay, new topic!

A supermarket chain in the UK is paying their respects in a very unusual way. They have turned off the beeps from the self service machines. Without telling their customers.
So... a lot of things are going wrong and upsetting customers.

In the meantime the employees get upset too as the chain has also decided no music, and no use of the tannoy. They cannot announce that the store will be closing in 15 minutes either.

That doesn‘t tally with most reports that the Queen died long before Harry arrived. And before William, Edward, et. al arrived.
Some report she passed a 1/2 hour before William, Andrew, Edward and Sophie arrived. (Minus Harry) I’m not where I can look at the time line but I will admit it’s all over the place. At least the others spent a great deal of time with her over the course of her illness. I’m sure that was a comfort to the Queen and her loved ones. You can often determine when a terminally ill person has a matter of days or hours left. Sometimes you can slow down the process so the family can gather to say goodbye. That went through my mind when reports were hitting the news

Thankfully she didn’t die alone. I remember that being my grandmother’s greatest fear…MIL’s too . I spent the day with dad and he passed 15 minutes after I left. Spent a solid week around the clock with my uncle. Stepped into the next room to answer a phone call and he passed . It’s hard when a family has one or two who want the focus on them and not the one who is dying. It shouldn’t be like that IMO It creates a lot of unnecessary drama and heartache. I can’t imagine what it’s like on a world stage.

I love how the one Scottish minister noted in his speech today that this is the first time anyone had become king on Scottish soil in 400 years. Sobering thought.

I also thought Charles, after the speech where it was said that QE II allowed them to call her the Queen of Scots, that he would have said he would like to be known as the King of Scots. But maybe that would have been too off the cuff and presumptuous in the beginning of his reign. He is their king, but it would be a way of styling himself.

Of course, the RF would have had someone bedside covered.
For regular folks, this is where hospice can be a blessing. The aide or nurse can be awake and nearby while a family member might get a few hours of much needed sleep.
Having some extra caring support can be a blessing to both the patient and their family.

Hospice nurses are a godsend. I have two in my family. Thankfully The Queen's oldest two children were at her bedside.
