Oh, yes. That must be why I had a faint recollection of the monarch being the one who had to grant such titles.

I didn't realize Prince of Wales had to be bestowed. Thought that was just handed down to the next Heir To the Throne.

It’s a sad day for the world. She was much admired and dutiful Queen. We always thought my Mom looked like her. She was born in the same year, exactly three months before the Queen. She wore the same hairstyle her whole life. She passed away 17 years ago. I am glad that Charles will be King in my lifetime. I wondered if I’d see that as we’re almost the same age. I was two when she became Queen and three for her coronation. I slightly remember a street party in Belfast where I lived then. Long tables set up in the street and treats for the children. I have nice mementos of her coronation, including a coronation mug and a miniature coronation carriage with the horses. I’m so pleased that she was able to celebrate her platinum jubilee.

I still can't believe she's gone! It was only yesterday she was asking Liz Truss to form a new Government! And of course, she's just led us in a 4 day party!

For those hoping that Charles would abdicate in favor of William, I can't see any father doing that to their son, who has young children of his own. Charles knows first hand what it was like to have his mother's time split between the realm and her young family. He wouldn't want that for William. Whether he will abdicate in 10 or 15 years remains to be seen, but right know, I think he will take the mantle on, himself.

I suspect the bigger reason why Charles will not abdicate is the tremendous scandal that Edward VIII's abdication was as well as its having brought horrific embarrassment to the family.

That the Duchess of Windsor was twice divorced had a good deal to do with why it took so long for Charles and Diana to be able to divorce. Times and attitudes about divorce had changed, of course. However, the memory of how casually the Queen's uncle abandoned his responsibilities to the nation to marry a divorced woman still cast a pall over considerations of Charles divorcing.

I can't see, even now, that Charles would consider abdicating. Too much ugly baggage associated with it.

Well I am relieved for the Queen. To be reunited with Philip & her God, since she was religious.

To live to that age, with incredible health almost until the end. And although you could not pay me enough to have to live such a public life, she was born into and lived a privileged life.

But what made me smile the most - besides for her to most probably pass away peacefully - was for her to pass at her beloved Balmoral.

Grace, dedication and focus - she was something.

Her death is such a marker of time . I was taken to see her, as a child. And that memory today makes me think of my mom & granny. I always knew the Queen's passing would hit hard, but it is truly because there are ways of being that have come to a close.

However, just as one becomes King or Queen immediately upon the death of the prior monarch, I had the idea that Prince of Wales was a title just as rapidly assumed by the next heir.

I didn't realize it had to be granted by the new monarch.

He became the Prince of Wales in 1958 but the investiture ceremony was not held until 1969 when his mother felt he was old enough to understand the significance of the title.

Traditionally (at least since the 14th century!) it is a title that is held by the oldest living son of the British monarch, if he is the heir apparent but it is definitely a title that has to be granted by the reigning monarch and does not pass automatically.

I am so sorry that Queen Elizabeth II passed. She was such an amazing person. The world is changing so much. Her loss is one more change. She devoted her life to her country and the people of her realm. I picture her with Philip now. I loved the picture of the rainbow at Buckingham Palace. I think of her corgis, Balmoral, Windsor, and the country life she loved. They were showing her in all the different dresses and hats that she wore. I loved the colors and the way she wore them. She may not have been a fashion icon but she was fashionable in her own unique way. Charles has a tough act to follow.

More fragile. I think she grieved more than we will ever know and it contributed to her passing. I can only think that she is at peace after a life well lived, and hopefully reunited with the love of her life.

There was a time when I was a big follower and admirer of the monarchy; I'm not that anymore, but I have always respected the Queen and appreciated that she never put a foot wrong. RIP.

I'm like many of you....feeling quite sad at the Queen's passing. She's just been such a constant in all of our lives. She will leave a huge void in this world for sure. My thoughts are with our U.K. Disers....and your nation as you mourn the loss of this incredible woman. Godspeed Queen Elizabeth, and God Save the King.

I am a big fan of The Crown and really liked seeing how the relationship between Elizabeth and her father was portrayed. I do hope that was accurate.

Am I the only one who really wishes we could see the moment when Elizabeth meets her father again? Can you imagine the pride that man must have had had he known what his daughter became?

That image of her sitting alone, so isolated, at Prince Philip's funeral is seared in my soul. She looked absolutely heartbroken and defeated. Gut punched. She's had to bury all her relatives ahead of her, save her children and their children. Her mum died 20 years ago. She wasn't even able to replace her corgis as they each died.

I think the combo of Philip and the ongoing isolation she had to endure near the end is what did her in.

I am so very sad to hear of our Queen’s passing. She was such a driven, empathetic and kind person and a devoted public servant throughout her reign. She was truly loved by the British people and served as an important symbol of Britain’s values and commitment to integrity.

I must say, though I knew that her health has been deteriorating over the last few months, I really didn’t expect to lose her so soon. To think that she did her best to fulfil her duties so close to her death is really humbling.
