No, I didn't think he would take the name Philip. Maybe Louis after his uncle, but as one of his Grandchildren has been named that, that ruled that out.I would be surprised if he chose to honor his father with “King Philip”. I always though it would be Charles. Although I may be wrong. Queen Camilla is a pretty sure bet. Plus a new Prince and Princess of Wales.
What does that have to do with this?![]()
Can we please keep this thread focused on Her Majesty and not bring up any thing from the past that really doesn't matter right now.
Just sayin'...
Yes (though there will be ceremonies later). BBC has already said “The King and Queen Consort will spend tonight at Balmoral”. I may have the exact sentence wrong, but the point is that they already referee to Charles and Camilla and “King and Queen Consort”.
For those who know: So Charles becomes King right away, upon the Queen’s death?
ETA: BBC just answered, he does.
The official coronation will probably be a month from now. After the heir has had a chance to mourn and can finally enjoy the ceremony of becoming the new monarch, so to speak. They did that with Elizabeth, after her father's passing.
The country (and commonwealth) need time to mourn too.
I don't think the coronation will be as soon as a month. Far too much to organise. The official coronation will probably be a month from now. Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the throne when her father died on Feb 6, 1952. Her coronation was held on June 2, 1953 so more than a full year later.
Unlike Queen Elizabeth's sudden ascension... Charles III's probably has been planned for a long time. Elizabeth was also quite young while Charles isn't . Maybe not a month but pretty soon IMOI don't think the coronation will be as soon as a month. Far too much to organise.
RIP, indeed. A long life of devotion to duty.RIP to our wonderful Queen
There has been speculation as to what name Charles would take, but our new PM has just spoken outside Downing Street and said the King will be King Charles III
Wow, I remember seeing the blurb on some documentary of Queen Elizabeth that they waited a little bit. I didn't know it was that long. That's not a little bit.
Well stated.Even with dozen of Kings and Queens in the world. To the US, there is only one THE Queen. Regardless of revolutions.
Her coronation was almost 16 months after her father's death, royal tradition asks that an appropriate length of mourning time follows after a monarch's death before they hold celebrations such as coronations.
Today is referred to as “D-Day,” and the subsequent 10 days as “D+1," "D+2," "D+3," and so on.Is Charles still going to show up at royal events in the meantime? (After a time of mourning, of course.) Or will we just see him as he passes by in cars and waving to people & the cameras until then?
He is the King, and will conduct business as the King, before the coronation. The coronation doesn’t confer any additional duties or obligations. It confirms what has already taken place. King Edward VIII was a king for almost a year before abdicating, and never had a coronation. He was no less a king for lack of a coronation. Is Charles still going to show up at royal events in the meantime? (After a time of mourning, of course.) Or will we just see him as he passes by in cars and waving to people & the cameras until then?
