quebec drivers license and state of georgia

i will be driving down to WDW. has anyyone from quebec have a run in with a state trooper in Georgia about our french drivers license. CAA want me to pay $25 for international drivers license plus passport photos +++. does not make sense considering the time spent in Georgia. thanks..peter

you shouldnt need an international license for driving in the states only if your in europe or australia where they drive on the other side, it being french shouldnt make a difference its still canadian

what i heard is that since our license is in french only, the state trooper cannot read/understand what it says. seems a way to make money

I think they are just trying to make money off you I dont think you should need it, yes its french but they can see the date and that your canadian so there shouldnt be an issue

We've been driving to Disney from Québec for the past 20 years, we unfortually met troopers 2 times (no tickets). We never had problems with our driving license. About a year ago it was said that it would be a must to have an international driving license, CAA sold a lot of them but I think that the project was droped. Have safe drive and a magical trip.

Dh got a ticket a few years back in Georgia and we didn't have issue with it. They had no problem giving him a ticket

Never met Georgia troopers with our Quebec license but I did read all about it last year. We did consider getting an international license but for the little time we spend in GA, it seemed silly. Just be a little more careful and don't speed too much when passing through...

A year or so ago there was a BIG flap when Florida tried to pas a law requiring international licenses for any one who held a regular DL from outside the US. There was such an uproar from other English speaking countries (a large chunk of that state's tourist base)"that the Governor squashed the bill.

you also don't require an international DL for Europe... UK, Italy, Portugal, and Germany have never asked us for a IDP with our BC licenses.

Actually it was the federal government the squashed it because it violated international laws.
