Quarantine Update?

We are also DVC and just had to cancel. My advice, call or email DVC and demand members from NY, NJ, and CT be dealt with as special cases; DeSantis is effectively shutting us out of using our membership. Don't settle for the RCI line. There are creative ways for them to deal with our losses.
Thanks, we tried even with a supervisor. They would do nothing for us:-( We are hoping the travel ban is lifted and won’t cancel until the last minute.

That's just wrong. I'm sure DVC is operating strictly within their rights and adhering to the letter of their rules for their own benefit, but they should think longer-term than that.

One thing you might try is a complaint to the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation's division that regulates timeshares. DVC may be operating within their technical legal rights, but they won't enjoy a DBPR complaint. Maybe a complaint will make them more reasonable.

Good luck.

It's a shame that this is happening to many people. Imagine the amount of people who don't even come to these boards to tell everyone about their frustrations over this. You could also lodge a complaint at the Governor's office since this man is not being vocal as to why the quarantine was extended for states that currently have low numbers compared to several other states (which still have free range to roam around FL as of today)

I don’t know.... Disney is not denying you use of your timeshare. Neither is the government actually. There’s no reason you can’t quarantine in your timeshare.... that is if Disney let’s you check in.

Except Disney clearly states: “Guests who are under isolation or quarantine orders must not enter Walt Disney World Resort.” So you can’t quarantine in the timeshare.

Please reread my last sentence.
I have no clue about the legal side of letting someone enter their own property.
Regardless, I’m sure Disney will will in the short term.

Yea important things like bringing the Republican national convention to Jacksonville. Let's just say the majority of residents are not thrilled about this.
I suspect most people don't care one way or another. I don't sense a widespread uprising over this critically-important issue, lol.

To me, WDW reopening is a much bigger public health threat.

So your okay with travelers from CURRENT HOTSPOTS to visit WDW and in August attend the RNC (assuming #s are same at that time)?

My personal opinion is that ANYONE visiting WDW presently is participating in a natural selection experiment -- as will be the attendees of the Republican Convention if they hold it.

By that logic then no travel restrictions should be needed at all. Florida is just one big natural selection experiment anyway since the hotspot states are not required to quarantine. I truly feel bad for FL right now.

And you would be wrong. I live in Jacksonville. Many people are talking about it with a majority saying it should go on here. Some people are thinking on leaving town during the RCN. I am not one of them. However, thank goodness I live in a spot that isn't close to where most of the activities will be going on also not near the hotels/restaurants they will using. I am not planning on going anywhere near downtown and the beaches while they are here and 2 weeks afterwards.

Omaha reported an uptick in cases following the Rally. Jacksonville probably will too. The question to be seen on WDW is if strong mask policies and enforcement are enough to prevent a noticeable uptick for Orlando which is already a hot zone.... so perhaps it would be hard to notice... and guests will largely return home before they are symptomatic so the mix of locals to out of town is a factor. The real indicator may be whether castmembers start to test positive or not. I am betting WDW measures will be enough to prevent significant spread there.

One thing we don't know much about is the effect of duration.

It's one thing to wear a mask for a 20 minute Publix run, something else again to wear a mask for an all-day outing like WDW, or protests, political rallies, or any other gathering. The longer you are in a large group of people, the more likely you are to get infected...even with a mask. Masks are not 100% protection -- in fact, we don't know how much protection they actually offer because there are so many variables. Improperly fitted over a large beard, they are probably a useless confidence builder that increases your likelihood of infection.

The other thing that's a crap-shoot is getting to WDW and back home again. Scotty is not just beaming people to the security lines at Mk -- most of them are flying to get to Orlando. So how safe is the aircraft? Baggage claim? The queue to board? Airport restrooms? The wait for DME?

I personally think reopening WDW is going to result in a lot of new cases, but the extent will be impossible to measure for the reason you mention -- people will go back home before knowing they are infected. And don't forget that a large percentage of infected, contagious people are -- and remain -- asymptomatic.

My personal opinion is that ANYONE visiting WDW presently is participating in a natural selection experiment -- as will be the attendees of the Republican Convention if they hold it.

However, these visitors from Texas, Arizona and other hot spots will spread it even more in your Florida communities.

Most consider throwing caution in the wind regarding Covid-19 a national selection experiment. I don't. Sure, they'll get it and recover. But my 79-year old uncle in Vero Beach may not.

To y'all living in Florida...please stay safe.

Edit to add: And it's never too early or late for a Mom to worry...especially when your eldest daughter lives in Houston.

Just read some reports from yesterday's park visitors and one was particularly disheartening. Seems many people are taking their masks off in queues, for long periods of time. Some eating and drinking as an excuse. Also, the distance markers are being observed casually, causing distances more like 3 feet apart on a regular basis. That plus masks off... if this happens a lot, not liking the odds. Also no distancing being conducted in ride exit areas. People piling up against those in front of them. Also people taking masks off on rides. Cast members telling people to fill in along queues... knock it off, let people judge their own safe distance.

I realized Ieft out an important "not" It should read "Many people are talking about it with a majority saying it should not go on here."
