Hi guys.. I am trying to find out if Dogs need to be quarantined when moving to England.

DS and family MAY be moving to England this summer if the Army can get their orders together... both are enlisted Army (son and DIL) They currently have a small dog and now a SNAKE.. yuck.. boa.. I am not a reptile fan...

If you have any idea of the Quarantine laws or where I might find them please let me know.

THANK YOU so VERY MUCH!!

Joan

I wouldn't know - but EEK  - a boa?!:earseek: :earseek:

Quarantine that thing, will ya?;)

My sister had to quarantine her two dogs for SIX MONTHS when the got orders to Scotland. They had to be shipped air cargo, picked up a tthe airport by the quarantine kennel, the costs were astronomical. Only certain kennels are approved for the quarantine, and of course they are more expensive.

I think that thye have relaxed the quarantine since then, it's not nearly as long.

She says she will NEVER put her dogs through that again, it was very stressful for everyone, not to mention the expense.

Ok.. sorry Snake lovers...... but I just do not think of snakes as pets...
My son and his wife also have 2 kids... 2 and 5 and another due next month...... it is a busy household for sure.
They just got the boa today.. dear lord in heaven......

I googled and I yahoo searched on the web.. the info I have come up with is a bit confusing to say the least.

Most everything says six month quarantine for the dog.. but nothing available for the snake. and then all most of of the info says England is relaxing quarantine laws.. but NOTHING gives CURRENT info for Quaranine in the UK..

Thanks again for all replies.. surely appreciated!!

Call the British consulate in NYC for more info.

Joan,

It looks like Belle has you pointed in the right direction, but you should probably post this over on the UK CB as well, if those links don't get you all the answers.

Good Luck!!!

Debbie

Belle, thank you for the links.. it seems pretty straight forward.
I sent it to my DIL. I have not found out anything about letting the snake come over. Maybe they will just have to give up the dang Boa! that would make me do the HAPPY DANCE!!:bounce:  :Pinkbounc

Joan I would imagine they would............the dog may well be healthy enough, but you just never know. I know animals have to undergo quarantine when coming into Australia & I would imagine any country would do the same.

I've posted to you on the UK CB but dogs (and cats) can be brought into the country under the Pet Passport Scheme which if they've had the appropriate rabies shots etc means they will not face quarantine - but the snake will most likely be considered "Restricted Goods" which require a licence.

Check out HM Customs & Excise on the following page, scroll down to 'Travelling to the UK from outside the EU ' and check under the "Restricted" list - there is a telephone number given there.
