Happy New Years Eve!

It's been rainy all day, 5+ inches of rain here. The wind has picked up quite a bit. No storms though.

@NYCgrrl, I have an assortment of Farberware, T-Fal and old Revereware. What's left of my Revereware is the only set I've ever had. I've just piecemealed it over the years. Trying out some Farberware ceramic skillets right now.

Dinner tonight was Dominos pizza. DD might make queso for later but to be honest I really hope she doesn't.

The grandkids have been crazy today with all the rain and not able to get outside to play. DD did take them out for a short while but it was just too cold to play in the rain. We are dog sitting for DS. Mack is an English Bulldog. He's fairly easy going but the kids drive him crazy. They are after him all the time and we are after him to leave him alone. I found DGD brushing him last night with my hair brush. Fortunately he is short haired but he sheds like the dickens.

Paid my final payment for a VRBO rental for Broken Bow, Oklahoma in a couple of weeks. DS, fiance, DD, boyfriend and DGK are all going with us. I am so looking forward to it. It will be nice to get away for a weekend, just a couple of hours from home. It was hard finding a home that was not two story. DGK's are not stair savvy.

Happy 2021 DIS family!
I am so grateful for this thread, and for all of you. We have bonded together over the last 10 months, kept each other strong, and helped us get through a lot! We have shared some of our stories, our family's, our traditions, and our daily lives. We have shared happiness, sadness, the loss of family, friends, & furbabies, celebrated new births, some new beginnings,and so much more. We have become our own little DIS family within the Community Board, and I hope that lasts long past what has gone on in the past year. I wish you all peace and happiness, the best of health, and good luck. Above all, I wish each of you love and friendship!

Happy Hogmanay or New Year everyone. Next Year I plan on a Hogmanay celebration.

Well it was certainly a "Fun" year. I started it off New Years Day by being attacked in the bathtub. The dog chased my 3 month old kitten into the bathroom who jumped at me as I was reaching for my towel. It was a scene from "HELP I've fallen and I can't get up" except I had fallen and couldn't move. My husband was no help so I somehow had to do it on my own. I cracked a couple ribs and had the deepest purple bruise on my butt I have ever seen. When they say broken ribs are the worst believe it. Two weeks later while getting Chinese takeout on plates the kitchen cabinet fell out of the wall - ON TO ME!!! Another comedy as I am holding at least 50+ pounds of dishes and cabinet on my chest and thumb and my ribs were killing me. My husband moved the dishes ONE AT A TIME!!! When I walked into Urgent care for the third time in a month I had to tell them on my husband's orders that he does not abuse me I am just an accident waiting to happen. It is true. Then I looked and said "Man I broke a nail." I had a crushed soft tissue injury to my thumb and a possible hair line fracture and the nurse just started laughing. When I called my husband to tell him to throw the take away out he replied "I picked out the glass and started eating it!!!" He is legally blind, picking glass out of his food??? We ordered pizza.

When the year starts out like that who can think it will get worse.

On the positive side my grandson got married and is about to become a father. I did get to Disney World while things were still normal. I left for home 2 days before they shut down and the world went crazy. I got a new bathroom that has a shower and no tub so if we fall the damage won't be as bad and there are safety rails for my husband. He also got approved on the first try for Social Security Disability. He's only a couple a years away anyway but it helped him understand that the strokes did major damage and he is never getting better. That actually was a positive for me anyway. Negative side we had our Alaskan Cruise cancelled but the positive side of that is we rescheduled for this coming July and will be on the cruise for our 40th anniversary. Fingers crossed we get to take the cruise. And I found this thread and feel like I have made new friends here. I have enjoyed the stories and commentary and pictures posted. Thank you all for that.

I ended the year by ordering the kitchen cabinets. They will arrive just as the baby is due but my grandson and I have a plan in place so that he can be there when he becomes a dad. He is going to be an AWESOME dad. I can't wait to meet LJ, for Little James though I think Little may be an understatement. They just had an ultrasound and estimate he will be close to 9 pounds. He is an ounce shy of 6 pounds now with 7 weeks to go and measures 20" already. The baby will be the 7th James in my family, all living. My dad, brother and nephew, my husband, son, grandson and now the great grandson. I came up with different nicknames for my son and grandson. My son is Jamie, named that long before Outlander made it popular and my grandson is Jay so LJ works.

Today will be the quietest New Year I have ever spent in my life. I was from South Philly, the heart of the over 100 year old Mummer's Parade. I have an uncle in the Mummers Hall of Fame so a big deal with my family. But South Philly New Year's is like no other. You have to visit everyone and eat at every house. My aunt ended that a few years ago, she is the last relative in South Philly and I kind of agreed with her decision. What goes on now is not something I really want my grandkids around but it was so much fun to see the Mummers come down to where there clubhouses are and put on a show, waiting for them all to serenade the winner of the String Bands. We moved the big gathering to my mom's house because she has the room and as much as she complains every year she LOVES it. There are no get togethers today so I will be stuck with football all day.

It just started raining here..weather channel says its freezing rain, but I just went out to see, and for now it's just rain. Temp is 32, so it's on the verge. Supposed to up a little so maybe we will luck out. I haven't stopped since I got up at 4 am. I took down the outside decorations, took down the lights and Christmas flag, etc. Then I moved on to the tree and undecorated that. Put all the Hallmark ornaments back in their original boxes, and everything else in bubble wrap and into a storage box. Just took down the Christmas curtain panels (I use burgundy for the holidays), put them through the handwash cycle of the washer, then folded them and put them in their storage bag. Then I put the normal everyday white lace panels back up in the windows. After we get all the rooms painted I have new curtains to put up in every room, along with new blinds. Then the pork went in the crockpot with saurkraut and a sliced apple,,and I am ready to quit. Hubby has been asleep in his recliner the entire time I was working in there. I told him when he got up at 5:05 that was way too early for him, and I was right!
All that work done, means I can take the weekend off, right? lol..only thing planned is a quick trip to Walmart and Aldi's tomorrow, providing we don't get the ice storm later tonite or early morning.

I started it off New Years Day by being attacked in the bathtub

I thought you were talking about this morning until I read further.

Our 2020 started with our dog crossing the rainbow bridge on January 7. Did improve with birth of DGS on May 18. Then MIL passed August 25.

Have you been on one before? We, thankfully, went in 2019 and loved it.

We watched it on TV when it used to be on. Usually watch the Rose Parade but none this year, just some special. They did just have a compilation of all the seniors whose bands would have marched this year. They must have been so disappointed to miss the opportunity.

@lynxstch, what city are you near in western MD? Then I can guess when the rain will get here.

Our decorations will be up until at least next weekend.

Just checked out bank account and we received our stimulus money.

Well 2021 is here and I'm ready for it. Unfortunately I woke up to news that a casual friend of mine lost her mom last night to covid related pneumonia. They just lost her FIL last month so the amount of grief is staggering for them.

We were in bed before midnight after fancy sushi and some good drinks. We were asleep and bolt straight up when hearing young lady just screaming to be screaming and I'm like what the crazy hell is going on and realize it's 1200 and instead of oh whoop whoop she's just screaming and then fireworks going off all over. Luckily I have blackout shades on and that helps with noise and Matt was prepared so he went back to sleep. I went down for cup of tea and some tv to settle back down.

I'm watching the Rose Bowl not Parade today and it makes me sad. I'm ready for some normalcy and traditions. I want my parade! Have any of you ever been? It's BIG thing on my bucket list and I hope to make this happen sooner than later.

We had indulgent breakfast and I'll make green chile enchiladas later with queso and sides for football watching this evening.

I'm watching the Rose Bowl not Parade today and it makes me sad. I'm ready for some normalcy and traditions. I want my parade! Have any of you ever been? It's BIG thing on my bucket list and I hope to make this happen sooner than later.

DH and I would like to go sometime. His parents did years ago. I am missing it this year too. We watch for the Marching Bands (see previous post) so are not into the performances.

Pea, I love your be jolly and be merry stockings! I watched Finding Santa last night. It wasn't one of my favorites by any means. I did love the elderly father who for many years was the town's Santa. His motto was to bring joy in all he did. Each of you do, thank you.

Tina, hugs on your friend I've never been to the Rose Parade. I did one year through a high school service club help one Saturday with some flowers. My only memory of that day was it was FREEZING in the darkish room we worked in. With warmer temperatures, I'd enjoy helping do something like that again some time. I admit I am not parade watching patient at all. My Grandma LOVED the Rose Parade and often watched it throughout the day. From Heaven right now, maybe she is remembering that Should you (or anyone) ever come out my way (which I pray you do so we can meet) I'll direct you to a library in town that (at least a few years ago) had upstairs in one of their hallways, old Rose Parade framed pictures on the wall.

Happy 2021! I am grateful, thankful, and blessed to have "met" you all this past year. While I'm sure we all hope for a return to "normalcy" soon, I also hope that we will all continue this wonderful friendship and camaraderie

Joshua did not make it to the new year last night. Since he loves Vincent Van Gogh, we let him stay up to watch the Doctor Who episode "Vincent and the Doctor" - he was impressed at how much the actor looks like the real Van Gogh, and I introduced him to "the OTHER Bill Nighy" (as opposed to Bill Nye the Science Guy ). We put him to bed after that and he passed out quickly. I only made it about another 90 minutes past that myself. We woke up around 7 this morning to Josh standing next to our bed, staring at us and willing us to get up...

I put out my grandmother's Lenox snowpeople with birds and I decided to leave out our new gnomes, "Dusty" and "Billy" (Josh named them for the 2 guys from ZZ Top ). I tried to finish putting away more Christmas stuff, but Josh was in a bad mood. We brought his Lego City back to the living room and he screamed and yelled that we weren't doing it right. Then he kept dropping smaller pieces and demanding that I find them. I retreated to our bedroom for an hour because of it. I only came down at 11 because I hadn't eaten since we had our Chinese at 3:30 last night and I was hungry. Now I've overdone it again and feel like a slug.

So, getting me back to the Doctor Who talk... :

What?what?what?!?!?
I can handle Matt Smith , but not whomever that current Dr is.... call me sexist but my Dr Who (and my Bond) I prefer as male) I grew up w/ scarf guy (what we called him as kids) and David T’s FIL aka All Creatures Great & Small guy!
Of course, the ONLY television shows we were allowed to watch as kids were Dr Who, Are You Being Served- ironic, no???, Dick Cavitt, and the MacNeil-Leher report! Oh, and the Muppet Show!

Tom Baker - the scarf guy - was my first Doctor, too! When I was in 3rd grade, our PBS station started airing the show daily and his tenure was the first one on! For some reason, they then went back to the Pertwee era and after that, skipped ahead to Davison. So I remember them quite well. Unfortunately, those were the only ones I got to see as a child.

DH and I saw the 50th anniversary episode in the movie theatre and it was so quiet in there, you could hear a pin drop. Except for the scene where all of the Doctors converged on Gallifrey, and you heard Capaldi's voice say "No sir - all thirteen" and the close-up of his eyebrows, everyone started cheering and clapping. Then during the last scene, when you hear Tom Baker's voice before you see him, I blurted out in that extremely quiet theatre, "OMG, I know that voice!" And when you saw him, everyone started cheering again. The energy was so awesome that night

I think Matt Smith is actually my favorite Doctor now. There was just something he brought to the role that I think worked. I don't mind Jodie Whittaker at all - I like her...I thought she was good in Broadchurch - but she and Capaldi both got garbage writing. The only episodes of theirs that stand out in my mind are "Hell Bent," "Heaven Sent," and "Rosa."

I say bring back River Song and Missy!

Would you believe that my husband spent about 5 minutes last night trying to talk me into a piece of property that is for sale up there directly across from the prison? He & my brother are shopping around for a hunting/motorcycle riding piece of property in that area and in WV (I think I've shared before, my husband grew up in that immediate area and still has a fair bit of family in the 'area').
him - but it's got water & sewer and it's 100/200 acres!
me - it's across from the PRISON!
In fairness to the prison area, I can't recall what the surrounding area is like so it could be perfectly delightful!

Every time she comes comes on, I'll say 'Sweetie!" in anticipation of her saying it. My second favorite "Sweetie" as I'm a massive AbFab fan, so Sweetie, Darling comes first for me

It remains grey, dark and damp around here. Expecting Lynxstch's rain to come around soon. I've managed to get all the Christmas stuff down and packed away, all that is left is for the boys to haul it back upstairs and put it up in the attic for me. My next chore will be to clean out the snack drawer. My husband is very nostalgic when it comes to holiday sweets, so he always picks up ribbon candy and baklava and other candies and cookies that remind him of his childhood christmas... regretfully not so much of it gets eaten, and the quantity of each item is often purchased in to large of an amount. Plan is to empty the drawer out, put it all on the counter Divvy up whatever the boys want to take home to them, have my husband pick out a few things he can't make it thru January without and toss the rest. Then I'm calling it a day and going to sit down. During all this I was able to get thru the last Hobbit movie and am well into the first of the LOTR movies...it counts when you have it on but are in & out of the room, right!?!?

Oh! It looks like the rain/sleet/ice is here.

LOL Don't think anyone could talk me into buying a piece of property near either prison. One prison is on the other side of town, far away from us, and pretty far away from almost everything..the other one is in Cresaptown, but that one is nearby a school, the Boy Scouts of America, and a few houses..

We are both pretty scared of the upcoming weeks. He will be in the hospital for 6-8 days and a 8-12 week recovery time. I just hope the hospital doesn't lock down and not allow me to be with him. I desperately hope they can remove all the cancer.

My daughter owns an empty house near the hospital where I will be staying. That will help with travel time. She is also going to watch the dog during the day, since she is working from home these days.

We are supposed to get a little snow this afternoon, and I hope that's it for awhile, since I have never operated the snow blower... I will if I need to, however.

2020 has been one of the most trying years, I hope next year brings peace and joy for all of us. Best wishes for all!

It does me too! We got ours up a little later than I intended, so it still seems pretty healthy for now, and I'm going to leave it up a little longer. The Scouts here are offering a pick up on the 9th, so I think we'll take it down during the week.

Will be sending extra prayers your way..for the Drs to get it all, for your husband to make a full recovery, and for you to be strong while waiting.

That will be helpful,,it will cut down the time you have to be on the road..and you won't have to worry about your furbaby on top of everything else.
