I thought of a related to the last QOTD, QOTD for today! QOTD for Tuesday, September 1st: What was a fun smaller (so not WDW or DL) touristy place you have visited? It was so funny to learn from a good friend a month ago that as a kid, she and her family visited the Trees of Mystery! I went there (now years ago but MANY years after she did), too. When I was young we had Marine Land (I am not sure that was its name but something like that) not too far which I enjoyed going to along with Ports of Call which at that time was much more fun and kid-friendly than it is now. I remember they had a Carnation ice cream store--so yummy. What about all of you? I hope this brings back happy memories!

If you've ever gone to Denver, CO, and visited with friends there, if they didn't take you to Casa Bonita, then they aren't real friends. LOL That was a big deal when I was a kid; when I was 6, I got to go to a Read-a-thon (remember those??) there, and got to meet David Thompson (Nuggets..meh) and Lyle Alzado (My childhood hero).

Tiny Town outside of Morrison, CO. It's a mini-village and has (or had) a mini train ride.

Santa's Workshop (Cascade CO).

South of the Border was a must stop at tourist stop, and now that we've done it, we will never have to stop again. LOL The food at the fast food shop was bad.

I also forgot to post that my best friend from 5th grade posted on FB that she's going to be a grandma! Wow...I've got a 5-year-old, yet so many of my friends are grandparents already. I don't plan on seeing a grandchild until I'm around 70 - I hope (for Josh's sake)!

Two of my BFFs from high school have kids 5+ years younger than my youngest....and I'm a grandmother x3! I feel so very old and disconnected from them (they focused on their careers, I focused on family).

Some things are definitely more about "life stage" than actual age. I have a friend who's only 4 years younger than me, but my DS is a sophomore in college and her twins are just starting kindergarten. It works out great for us, though - she looks to me for "been there" advice, and I spend time with her kids to keep me young!

Exactly!

hmmm? Good one! Well, lets see...Williamsburg, VA & Gettysburg, PA come to mind first. Been to both several times - we enjoy the history of the areas & poking around antique shops once in a great while. Fortunate that we live not far from either place - can do Gettysburg/Lancaster area if we wanted to in one day.

I was in Ocean City, MD yesterday afternoon - Baltimore Ave & 3rd Street for a meeting at Town Hall - does that count as a fun smaller place? haha - I was in & outta there in no time though, OC isn't my thing, although between you & me I could see the folks walking on boardwalk/beach area and I almost walked up the block to check it out:tongue: I might drag Mr. Miserable down there for a little putt putt golf in the next few months -

Well he just informed me he is going up Thursday, and coming back on Friday. I'm not so sure how much of a good idea coming back down and needing to take the Bay Bridge home on the Friday of Labor Day weekend is...but I'll just say I'm glad I won't have to sit in traffic and listen to him yell at "these chicken neckers" blocking his way home:rotfl2:
We've got family in Keyser & Greenspring, WV as well. Husband grew up outside of Cumberland - Cresaptown? I think the area was called.

Yikes..the Bay Bridge is going to be a nightmare going towards OC on Friday, maybe he can leave early morning and get across it before it gets bad. Hope he has a safe trip. Stepson will be coming into town Saturday, but I think he's not leaving till Monday morning to go home. By then traffic will be bad coming out, but shouldn't be bad going in!
Yes there is Cresaptown not far away, I am in Cumberland.

Yay, so glad this question has brought happy memories! It was fun reading all your replies! Love the Storybook Forest! I emailed Disneyland one time suggesting that the Storybookland Canal boats be rethemed to have bigger/clearer scenes perhaps using Disney characters. It would be adorable to have a 100 Acre Wood with Pooh and friends for example pooh: I have no memory of going to Santa's Village but know I did at least twice. I have been to Fishermen's Warf and also like the San Diego shopping area Old Town.

QOTD for Tuesday, September 1st: What was a fun smaller (so not WDW or DL) touristy place you have visited?
Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO. And a very long time ago, back in the 60's, Six Flags over Texas was a lot like WDW. Every area was themed, workers had outfits that represented the flag that the section they worked in represented. In the canoe ride, teenage or older boys wore Indian loin cloths or buckskins (kid you not). There was cowboy/bad guy shoot em ups, It was magical! That was before it went total thrill seeker.

Dinner tonight was Pork Chops and acorn squash with a salad.

Meriweather - I'm not very familiar with the winter months out west (Arizona?), what kind of normal wintertime temps do you guys get out there? Does it get considerably cooler, or is it just a cooler version of warm?

It is a quiet day here in the office, to the point where I'm considering bugging out to go home and do a bit of house cleaning/closet cleaning.....I must be desperate for something to do if I'm considering going home to clear out closets :crazy2:

Totally missed posting yesterday.

DD came up with the kids so DH and I could watch the two if them while she went to the dentist. We survived, then went to a local small zoo, Plumpton Park Zoo.

I can relate the zoo to two of the discussions here, the QOTD and weather. We were watching the weather forecast and radar up until 1:56 when DD bought the tickets online. We got in the car and drove to the zoo, about 15 minutes away, where it promptly started to rain. We had umbrellas and it didn't rain much. Otherwise a nice visit.

After that, DH and I went to his mom's place to bring home another load of stuff, a TV and TV stand, which filled the car. He and his sister are going today to go through the clothes. Then Friday we go and pickup thr dresser then that is done.

I don't see myself going back to church for example until next Summer at the earliest and that would be only if all had been completely (or close to) normal for most of 2021! I plan to be very cautious and wait a few months after the plague has ended!
I am not sure when I'll feel comfortable going back, probably after a vaccine. Monday night we had a Zoom worship team meeting where they discussed starting an in person early morning communion service later this month. I usually sit in the balcony and they asked me my feelings on the balcony. I told them that I wouldn't be there.

I am not a huge fan of Ocean City, MD either. And we have the Pennsylvania Navy to yell at on the roads in this area.

South of the Border was a must stop at tourist stop, and now that we've done it, we will never have to stop again. LOL The food at the fast food shop was bad.
We have stopped there. Used the restrooms which were a little creepy. No need to stop again.

QOTD for today! QOTD for Tuesday, September 1st: What was a fun smaller (so not WDW or DL) touristy place you have visited?
Dutch Wonderland outside of Lancaster, which is great for little kids. Knoebels, Frontier Town near OC, MD when I was a kid. Gatorland near WDW was surprisingly nice.

I've been missing Gratitudes
My hummigbirds that are back
Time with the grands
New hike this weekend
