Quality Princess Outfits

I am looking to purchase 2 princess outfits (sleeping beauty & cindy) for my 9 yr DD. She is thin but tall so would probably need approx. size 8-10. I don't mind paying the money, but I want quality. Any suggestions? Advice on dresses at the park? Can anyone compare park dresses to the dresses from the website www.mydressuptrunk.com that was posted on this site? The dresses at my walmart do not come in the larger sizes.

check E-bay. Also, if you have the time to make (or have someone make) dresses for you, there are some great patterns.

I think the best quality princess dresses come from World of Disney stores, although I have gotten some nice ones at the Disney store or Disney direct.

My 9 yr DD also wears the 7-10 size. I just bought her the Aurora and the Cindy Prestige costumes from www.costumecity.com They were $45 each which is a bit pricey, but they are really nice. Much nicer than all the others I could find in her size. They seem to be pretty well made with zipper closures, not velcro or ties. The Cindy costume comes with a headband, ribbon choker and gloves. The Aurora comes with a crown and lace necklace. They fit my DD really well with a bit of growing room. She was so happy as none of the costumes in the stores were big enough for her.

my girls (3/5) have a couple of costumes from mydressuptrunk. i got these for my 5 year old b/c she wears a size 7 so she is too big for the average costumes at disney store.

we bought her the sleeping beauty dress. some would not want this dress b/c it does not look exactly like sleeping beauty's dress, but my daughter ADORES this dress. negatives: the material on the skirt is a bit thin - you really need to buy the tulle underskirt to go with it - makes it poofy and can't see through it. postives: no zippers/buttons. the bodice is stretchy enough she can just pull it on and it still fits snug. also, i think it looks great.

my 3yo has the mermaid costume - which is very cute/funny.

i kind of like it that my dd's dress will not look exactly like all of the other girl's sleeping beauty dress, so i think that is positive. i am very happy with the quality of these dresses with the exception of the skirt material being so thin. i think the cinderella dress looks great, buy my daughter is not a fan. my personal favorite is the princess and pauper dresses (i know, i know... not disney).

I checked out the website and they look nice. How about the material? Is it really thin or does it have some weight to it? Do you need to get a pouffy slip to go under or is there tulle built in? How long are they?

no tulle built in. the slip is a must have - makes it so much nicer. material is a satiny kind of stuff - but must admit it is thin. sewed together well. no tears yet and my girls are pretty rough. at least i don't feel like the seams are ready to pop like they were on some of my store bought (non-disney) outfits. we have never had a disney outfit (except mike and sulley)

my only complaint is the thin material - our dress got a run in it. even with the run, i am happy with the dress.

The material is light weight but not so thin you can see through it. There is a stiff slip included on the costume under the skirt. It's not tulle but it does make the skirt fuller (my daughter thinks it looks like really thick paper). I don't think she needs any other slip with it. My daughter is about 53 inches tall and it comes down to just above her ankles. The dress is about 42" from the shoulder to the hem. One thing to know, the Aurora costume has long sleeves that are not lacey like the ones at WAlmart. They are thin cloth (two layers - one pink like the skirt and an overlay of tulle with the silver sparkles like the ruffle) . I'm going to have to bring something for her to change into after as it might get too hot for her to wear for long in the summer. But overall, they are quite nice.

Sorry, new to all of this. What does WOD and TDS stand for? My guess would be World of Disney and The Disney Store?

My problem with The Disney Store is our local one no longer carries dress up year round and what little they have looks cheap for the price of $35

Oops! Mean to add...one of dd's dresses is the same as one my girlfriend bought for her little girl at WDW. Of course, hers cost quite a bit more $.

Just checked out the Disney Direct site. The dresses in the "deluxe" princess trunk are not as nice as what I bough individually.
