Quality luggage for a reasonable price?- update

I am a huge fan of Briggs and Riley luggage, even though it is not the most budget friendly brand. However, I can personally vouch for their quality and guarantee that they’ll last you a long, long time. Plus their lifetime warranty is simply outstanding as it covers even airline damage. I absolutely love their bags and I hope you do too!

My husband takes 75+ business trips a year (many international to less developed places) and his Briggs and Riley luggage is awesome. His "main" suitcase is more than 5 years old and has held up great. It has taken one trip to Half Moon Bay (Briggs headquarters) for a new and free zipper. We have many pieces of their luggage, but he mostly travels with his blue suitcase.

The best part was the suitcase was purchased at Marshalls--for less than $100.

I have given Briggs and Riley luggage for many a graduation gift and everyone has thanked us after their first trip.

We purchased the lightest weight luggage for travel. I took one of those personal luggage scales to the store with me.
My Husband's luggage is Delsey Helium Pilot series. My ds luggage is heys 4 wheeler and I have the Samsonite Sahora Brights collection.
We each have one 24" and a 21" carryon. Do not buy anything larger than a 25 inch bag as it will weigh over the limit if packed full.
We vacation 2-3 times a year and have had this luggage for 2 years and it looks like new.
My husband travels frequently for business and his checked bag ( delsey Pilot 26 inch has a small tear( cosmetic) from the airlines... which only I have noticed.
We previously had TuMi luggage and Hartman.
Our Tumi and Hartman luggage was quite a bit heavier especially the Hartman (all that leather and Brass).
The Tumi and Hartman bags that we checked were stolen off the carousel.
We still have the suiter and carryon.
When we purchased our present replacement luggage....I wanted the lightest luggage at the lowest price,
Will never again buy Tumi or Hartman for bags that are checked as they are the first bags a thief will take according to our insurance agent.
Of the three sets we have I love my son's Heys 4 wheeler luggage the best.

The last three sets that we've bought have come from the Disney store online. I love how the cases expand!!!! :thumbsup2 AND it's now on clearance through the outlet section for $49 for the set. :goodvibes
If I didn't already have 3 sets, I'd buy another! :woohoo:

Our first set of disney luggage has held up really well. The 2nd set we bought was a 2 pc set, with a bigger one and a smaller one. The airline destroyed the larger one, the handled pulled out of the rivits and the plastic feet were broken off. Luckily the disney store online has awesome customer service and they sent us a new set.

At the same time I also bought a garment bag which also had to be replaced after the airline/cruise trip, the snaps broke on it.

All in all I think they did a great job by replacing them and we do love our disney luggage, its just a good thing we don't fly often, we take much better care of it than the airline does!

Thanks everyone! I looked at luggage this weekend but just couldn't decide. Now I have more brands to check out!

We've been using mismatched, old suitcases so I've been considering buying a new set. I've read that the luggage at Walmart, Target etc doesn't last but I don't want to spend a lot. Marshall's and TJ Maxx have had some good prices but I don't know what brands to look for.

Any suggestions for good brands and a reasonable price range?

Thanks!!

Not sure what you'd consider inexpensive, but we've had good luck with our Samsonites from Sam's Club. They are hardback which seems old fashioned, but they are so much lighter than our canvas type bags. They can roll both directions. Love them and we've taken them on some travel intensive trips.

Thanks Suzanne. My daughter was very excited to have a "real" suitcase instead of her little kid's Disney one. Hers was very cute but didn't last long.

You got a great deal. I paid over $300 for my husband's 25" Delsey two years ago and he loves it.
Have a great vacation.
I went to Marshalls today and was tempted to by a 25" Heys in bright purple.. It was only $79 but I don't need it as my Samsonite Brights is still like new...but I loved the purple and it was so cheap...

I thought that was a good deal :) Now I'm looking for one more for DD7. Her Disney princess one from Marshalls- $17 a few years ago- is still in good shape but it's small. She would love purple!

I got a set of 3 from Costco for $125. Silver. Hard sided. And costco will take them back if they break.

Now that's BUDGET MINDED.

Hi!

I'll second again TJ Maxx - I purchased 2 matching Eagle Creek bags (22" and 25"- which are very light, great quality, and come with a lifetime garantee) for more than half and 75% off the list which was well over $250 a piece. I just purchased another Eagle Creek piece from another of my favorite online stores -Sierratradingpost.com and they also have some packing cubes of various size which I just purchased. BTW, Sierra Trading is great for purchasing all kinds of items at a great discount (clothing, outdoor, etc.) and offers discount coupons often via email :thumbsup2!

Good luck! :)
