We've been using mismatched, old suitcases so I've been considering buying a new set. I've read that the luggage at Walmart, Target etc doesn't last but I don't want to spend a lot. Marshall's and TJ Maxx have had some good prices but I don't know what brands to look for.

Any suggestions for good brands and a reasonable price range?

Thanks!!

Update-
Today I got 2 Delsey 25" rolling suitcases for $59 each at Marshalls- one blue, one red. I love them!

Thanks for all the advice! Less than 3 weeks to go :cool1:

We've had good luck with the Kirkland brand from Costco. My husband travels a lot for work and the suitcases have held up well.

Try http://www.luggageonline.com/. They have great customer service. They replaced my broken luggage a YEAR after I bought it, simply by me calling and complaining that it broke. I didn't even have an order number or receipt or anything. They looked it up by my email address and fedex'd me a brand new (bigger and better) piece of luggage! :thumbsup2 They have my business for life!

I got a set from Kohls with a coupon/code which has gone on 3 flights and 3 cruises. I also bought a single large case at Tuesday Mornings which has been fine.

My favorite luggage is Lands' End, but it is not inexpensive. But it really lasts.

When we need bags now, we usually buy through ebags.com. They have some decent sales sometimes and I like that they have lots of customer reviews for the various bags.

I bought luggage at the Wilson Leather outlet in Orlando 10 or so years ago and it still looks like new. It's not all leather, just a black nylon tweed like with black leather trim. It's been thru at least 4 airline trips per year, several 10 or so extended car trips per year and each time we get it out, Dh and I still comment on what a good purchase it was. I think I paid about 140 for the large case and 70 for the rolling carry on. I also got a computer bag and a cosmetic case that match. They don't have the exact same one, but they do have a similar one.:hippie:

LOVE LOVE LOVE Burton luggage. It is some of the best made out there... it is quite expensive but if you google it, there are often liquidators (like Sierra Trading Post) that sell it for SUPER CHEAP so long as it's last season's designs.

They are some of the best suitcases on the market!

i swear by ogio. great quality, fantastic customer service if you ever have any problems. i just picked up a "set" (2 separate bags in different sizes, same print) from TJMaxx for my brother and future SIL for her shower gift at a great price.

My only comment would be that you should not worry about your luggage being "mismatched." When replacing your luggage, buy what works for you and your family, which is usually not the same thing as the set the manufacturers want you to buy. We have good luck at TJ Maxx and Marshalls. We have one bag we bought at Marshalls 20 years ago for about $20 (manufacturered by Members Only -- and you thought they only made those '80s classic jackets) that is still our favorite and most useful bag even after being checked many many times.

I have even been known to buy luggage and bring it home for a test packing (and have returned a few that didn't really work well)! Best of luck -- Suzanne

Suzanne- We definitely don't have matched luggage! I don't care if we get a set. I actually don't like the full size suitcases (29" ?) because they seem so huge. Right now DDs each have a Disney one but my older daughter's is cracked so she needs something new. We also have two very old plain black mismatched suitcases.

I'm going to write down the brands people have mentioned and then check around at Marshall's and TJ's to see what they have. They seemed to have pretty good prices when I was there but I didn't know what brands to look for.

Thanks!

We found it worth it to pay a little more for LIGHTER luggage- so you won't be paying extra fees if you fly. The difference between a 3 pound bag and a 10 pound bag means about 7 pounds of shoes you have to leave behind!

Our luggage came from the Samsonite outlet. It was rolling stuff and lightweight. I love it. but it was too large for airline travel - so when were flying I bought a set off Ebags during a sale. I really can't remember what "name" it is but it was highly rated and in my price range so I bought it. It's held up for the past 3 years very nicely.

Ebags is having a 15% SALE TODAY ONLY
check out this set!

Another tip is to put it through a stress test while in the store. Open it up fully and look at the quality of construction in the zippers and lining. Pull out the handle and roll it around. If it is hard to handle empty, imagine how bad it will be when heavily loaded.

I agree with the poster who suggested buying lighter luggage as well. I bring my lugagge scale with me when shopping.

Finally, meaure the bag carefully (including everything that sticks out, such as handles and wheels) and make sure it will be allowed on the airlines you fly. We have a bag that is within allowable carryon limits for total size (45" on AA) but is 1/2" too deep to fit in the "sizer" so we travel in fear of being sized!

Best of luck in your search!

I saw some on sale at the Bass Outlet this weekend. The deal was buy one get two free. You had to pay for the 29" and got the 22" or 24" and a toiletry bag free. It had 4 wheels and seemed very light but it just seemed huge to me. Guess I'm used to small bags. I hadn't heard of anyone buying Bass luggage so I didn't know if it would last or not.

Thanks again,

I just bought the Samsonite Xspace 21" spinner and boarding bag on amazon for a total of about $179 shipped free. I LOVE it. I has so much more space than my previous 21" and I'm not quite sure why. Plus it is super durable and I can see myself having this for a long time. I will probably look at getting another 21" in the future.

I bought two really nice wheeled carry on bags for my DSs from TJMaxx by Swiss Wenger (Swiss Army Knife company) and they are very sturdy. They were $50 each. Before that I bought them same sized wheeled bags from Target-no name- and they fell apart after two trips.

My rolling duffle bag came from Kohl's. I have had it for around 12 years with at least one RT plane ride and a couple of car trips per year. I paid around $35 for it on sale.

Ditto on the Kirkland brand from Costco. We have used them extensively for 3 years and they are very well built and durable. I believe they have a large 26" model, a carry on size 22" model and a rolling duffel bag.

We only have the 26" and 22" models.

I have two different luggage sets that I got from Wal Mart and it come with a rolling suit case, a duffle bag, and a toiletry bag. I paid $29.00 for the whole set!! They had them in red and black the last time I checked. I've had those for almost 6 years now. & I just got one from Bealls Outlet about two weeks ago that is Levi's brand and it was pink:rotfl: that I got on sale for $15.00!! TJ Maxx has some really nice sets for a great price too!!;)

I am a huge fan of Briggs and Riley luggage, even though it is not the most budget friendly brand. However, I can personally vouch for their quality and guarantee that they’ll last you a long, long time. Plus their lifetime warranty is simply outstanding as it covers even airline damage. I absolutely love their bags and I hope you do too!

Stick with the major brands that have best warranty Tumi, Samsonite, delsey probably the most common of better brands you'll be able to find at tjmaxx. Also check out the lighter luggage that there making now as well as the ones with the tsa locks.
