We're looking at taking a short(er) trip this summer in late July or mid-August. We usually stay at the Candy Cane Inn; which we LOVE, but in the interest of saving some money I'm looking at some cheaper options.

Has anyone stayed at the Qualiy Inn on Manchester recently? I couldn't find any recent comments about it on the boards but I'm hoping someone has an opinion? :confused3

Have you read the stuff about it on trip advisor?

We stayed there in December. The walk wasn't too bad. The room was nice, but small, breakfast was better than most (cereal, donuts, pastries, fruit, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, waffles, etc.). We would stay there again.

Have you checked out the Alpine Inn ?
Very basic/inexpensive and on the same side of the street as DL. The 'breakfast' aint nothin to write home about, but there's a 7-11 on the corner.

Was the room clean? Older or newish?? I'm easily creeped out at hotels; which makes it hard to veer away from where we usually stay.

I don't think I've ever heard of that one! I'll go investigate... :surfweb: thank you.

The room was clean. Furnishings were in line with 2.5 star hotels (better than the 2 stars we've stayed at in the area). It felt newish.

I'm reasonably picky about cleanliness as well, and I would stay there again.

Alpine Inn is on Katella, west of Harbor. I haven't stayed there, but read up enough on it to say that I would be willing to try it if the price was right. I think the walk may be a bit further than the Quality Inn.

I stayed here in November and I got stuck in a room close to highway. I had to get ear plugs it was so noisy. The room was dingy and pretty depressing. I just slept here, but tried out the breakfast stuff and it was all very mediocre. Next time I will be somewhere else.

Agreed! Food was great, but get there early to avoid the long waits for the waffle irons.

The rooms are decent, but the walk can become tiring after a long day or several days. We have had several pleasant stays here, but would rather pay a little more to walk less to the park.

As long as you don't get the rooms that back the freeway, the noise isn't an issue. Last Easter my son and I were put in the upper room, far building - closest to i-5 - the door shook at night from the traffic, it didn't "seal" shut, there were dead bugs in the room and pretty noisy from the traffic. We sleep like rocks so I didn't complain, but would turn down the room if they assigned it again.

Hmmm...I was thinking the walk might get tiresome. And good to know about the room issues. I think I might just stick with Candy Cane. Or research a few more. Thanks for the input!
