QSDP for 2012 only 1 snack credit?!?

The only thing that may keep the guest from losing out then is the tax, which still has to be added to the OOP prices, but is included in the DDP. It is an interesting discussion. Someone will be sure to do an analysis soon enough.
Taking the tax into account is one thing that does save some extra money, and most of us just leave tax out when doing some of the numerical analysis. I do take it into account when figuring what I'd personally save/spend on my trips, but for all the dining plan cost stuff, I just leave it out. Since it's a flat rate (it's always 6.5% except at the All-Stars and EPSN Sports Complex or whatever it's called, there it's 7%), you can simply add or subtract that as needed.

Of course you are correct. Tax should be considered. For ease, it is generally excluded from my analysis and others. That said... it is just 6.5%...

So where I said you were paying $35, for $32 of value.... Even factoring in tax -- You are paying $35, for $34.08 of value. Still a $1 loss. Sure, if you are really using your refillable mug every day, it would be well worth that $1. But if you're not maximizing the mug, it's hard to see any value in the plan.

When we had the mugs.... We never *needed* them. Since we had them anyway, we used 2 out of our 4 mugs.... twice during a whole week, to get a drink while at the pool. The QS was simply too far from our room to really have any desire to re-fill frequently. We didn't want to carry the mugs around. And, with young children.... I really didn't think there were any beverages appropriate for young children. (I generally don't like to give my kids fake juices that are sugar water with 5% juice... We try to only give them water, milk, and real juices-- none of which are available with the mugs).

If you'll go over to the restaurant board and search "$40 a day" you'll see where many of us showed you can eat 1 TS and 2 QS and a snack with tax and tip included for less than $40 a day. It wasn't done as an alternative to the DDP, but as a take-off on Rachel Ray's old show. However, with the "downgrade" in the QSDP, it does make things look interesting.

Actually, for $40 per day.. It is quite possible to eat 2 TS meals per day. Yes, you may have to skip dessert, and may need to drink table water instead of soda. But there are tons of TS entrees that are under $20 apiece.

I agree with the tax thing.
I alway use a snack credit for breakfast then the other one for ice cream in the park - without the extra snack credit - this might have me rethink using the DDP - I may just add the money to the room key instead of using it

We use a snack credit for breakfest also. But only for the girls Dh and i just eat a earlier lunch. So we usually do 2 TS meals op so for the 4 of us we will have 8 extra CS meals. We will use those to get the girls a breakfest platter to share or something along those lines. But if we didn't do 2 Ts meals Op we would probably be missing the extra snack.

At this point I'm fine with it. We always get bottled drinks at the food court and just use the mugs. We bring the bottle drinks back and use them later. We always get a small cooler. Sometimes we find we have to many beverages at least we did last year.

I booked for next year and added the QSDP. I'm hoping we get if for free again if not I will be one that is paying for it. Which I'm totally fine with. Before FD was re-released we were under the kids free promo and I added the QSDP. We do prefer it over the RDP. We go for 10 days so to many adr's with really crowded resturants. I find if we eat early we usually avoid most crowds at the cs places.

Just wanted to add some good news to all of this....for the regular dining plan, they are FINALLY adding the refillable mug! WOOO HOOOOOO!!!!!

(sorry if someone above already mentioned this, I went the posts quickly).

:) Are they though? I think it is incorporated into the cost of the regular DDP - and then some. My first reaction to the DDP price for 2012 was "Wow, that mug is expensive!"

I see your point. But if theyre gonna raise prices anyway, at least we're getting a mug for it. Its better than not getting one. Lol!

Are really trying to differentiate (sp) between the QS and other plans... this could be that they will continue to offer the dining promotions.

By looking at all of the plans, it appears that all other plans include more options on how to use the credits than before.

It makes me sad because I loved the convenience of not worrying about paying for food, but I don't think with the missing snack the QSDP will work out for us anymore and the TS plan just makes the vacation seem too expensive (for our family of 3 it would make the dining $432.00 more than QSDP for the week) especially when we normally only do a couple of TS in a week. We lots of times used one of our snacks for breasfast or lunch. We had ran the figures before and decided for us it just did pay for itself or we lost a little money but we liked the convenience. I watched this time and our meals for 3 would run around $40.00 but if you factor in paying for a desert and a drink (when we eat at the resort) that we would not have gotten I think we can do better out of pocket. So we have decided if no free dining our next vacation we will try paying out of pocket and keep up with it so we can see how it works out. If they do offer free dining we will go ahead and pay to upgrade to TS plan because it seems a better value.

I thought the same thing. Your pretty much pay for the mug your first day.

I feel the same way. To some it may just be a $4 snack, but we have SIX people who will be on the plan. That is about $25/day or $175/week (most of our snacks this last time avg $4.25 with tax.)

$175 is a lot of money. Will we still go? Yep and we will love it. But it IS a little disappointing. Even if they would have raised the adult plan by $5 and the kids plan by $3 to cover the snack (as I doubt they would raise the kids plan by $5 just to cover one snack,) we still would have saved some money, as we do use that many snacks without trying.

If they raised their price by $5.. How would that save you money on a $4.25 snack?

Tell you what... Pay me $30 per day... And I will buy you $25 worth of snacks per day.
