QSDP for 2012 only 1 snack credit?!?

I just looked at the 2012 dining plan options and saw that the QSDP only has 1 snack per guest per night (instead of 2 snacks per guest per night). Is this really true?!? I was not expecting this and I am very sad/annoyed if it is true I hope that I misread; can anyone clarify this?

I just read the same thing. Really disappointing. First a ticket increase and now a missing snack. Seriously does Disney not make enough money. On top of that the past 2 times I was there the bathrooms were filthy which means they are charging more and hiring less. I think I may be looking for a new vacation spot. Disney has just about priced me off of their guest list.

I have a trip planned for this September and was beginning the planning for a Trip in March of 2012. Might be time to rethink the 2012 trip.

Yep only 1 snack. The only good thing to come of this is that the QSDP price did not go up. I was very disappointed that the 2nd snack had been taken away at first, but the more I thought about it, we may make out better without it. What I mean to say is if they would have kept the 2nd snack, but raised the plan by $5 it would be worse than getting the plan for the same price as this year and paying OOP for a $4(or less) snack.

Does that make sense? It's late...getting sleepy.

I guess I have always been naive when it comes to WDW. It makes me sad as I really begin to see that profit seems to outweigh customer satisfaction (even at the happiest place on earth).

Disney makes more money than any other franchise of it's like and/or kind and still has the highest costomer satisfactiion ratings of almost any company out there.

I don't think the $4.00 snack is make or break for us.

As stated already taking a snack away is better than an increase in price. Eventhough I like to eat (I'm one of those skinny people that just eats) I will be ok with only 1 snack. It is definitely not a Disney Vacation breaker for us. Everything goes up it this world. Did you stop driving when gas prices went up, I didn't I enjoy the fact I can go from A to B so I pay. I enjoy going to Disney so I will pay.

We do the QSDP and always have too many snacks. I don't think it will make that much difference to us and here is why:

With 2 snacks per person per day I know that I do not have to pay for anything OOP. I therefore don't worry much about getting the 'best value snack' (most expensive) to make us come out ahead. So if we want water, we use a snack credit.

I suspect all that will happen with one snack is that we will spend our one per day more carefully, thus increasing the snack value in our use of the plan. And we won't be running around the last few days trying to find ways to use up all those extra credits. Add to that the fact that there was no price increase I would say we are looking at break-even at worst but possibly even coming out ahead.

It's going to affect different people in different ways, depending on how you spend your credits.

Unless you maximize the mugs, (which many people don't use at all) it is hard to justify the math of the qsdp.

I can see this being true for many people. However, I would be expecting Disney to increase their prices in the next month or so in any event. It sometimes seems that they do this to make people feel that the DDP makes more sense than going OOP. It makes you wonder if this is just another way that guests actually end up paying for free dining, but that would be another discussion altogether.

I'd love to see an analysis with old menu prices, but I am quite confident that dining plan prices have risen much faster than menu prices.

I do suspect that many restaurants will increase their prices next year, but I doubt we will be looking at across the board 10-15% increases, which is what we are seeing in the dining plan.

As much as I am looking forward to my two week on site September trip with QSDP, it reinforces that the way of the future for my family will be staying off site. We absolutely love the convenience, privacy and extra room we receive by renting a Villa at Windsor Hills. We also tend to eat most of our meals there as we barbecue beside the pool! I find we also tend not to over eat and keep our menus very healthy. It is so much simpler to eat salads, fruits and vegetables when you have your own kitchen! Sad but looks like it is the way of future for us!

Profit and customer satisfaction go hand in hand.

You said it yourself, Disney is a business. If no one wants to come b/c they don't get snacks or the bathrooms are dirty, or whatever else is complained about...then Disney will have to reduce prices, increase services, or go out of business.

They aren't stealing your money.

Usually QSDP is geared towards those individuals/families that do not want to spend time (or money) eating what they would consider a lot of food. It is also a lower priced plan so it makes sense that some of the perks would be cut.

It has been my thought the object of the QSDP was to pay less and have the CS meals instead of TS meals. One less snack makes sense...especially for a meal plan that costs less.

I view the QSDP as the value resort of dining plans...it is lower cost, efficient and simple with very little fuss. That is not to say that it cannot be enjoyed.

Doesn't make you sound like a food snob at all. I'm the type of person who orders what I want to order, regardless of price. I don't buy something expensive, just to get value. And I don't order something cheap, just to save money.

But while you may subjectively feel like you got value by spending $35 to feed an adult for a day....
Objectively, you didn't get value, if you could have gotten the exact same food for only $30.

The only thing that may keep the guest from losing out then is the tax, which still has to be added to the OOP prices, but is included in the DDP. It is an interesting discussion. Someone will be sure to do an analysis soon enough.

I alway use a snack credit for breakfast then the other one for ice cream in the park - without the extra snack credit - this might have me rethink using the DDP - I may just add the money to the room key instead of using it

I think the QSDP was different in that the two snacks (and refillable mug) actually allowed you to cover all three meals if you used a snack credit for breakfast. Taking a way one of the snacks means you lose one of your 'meals' (say it is breakfast) or you lose ... erm, one of your snacks for the day. So now you still have a lot of food, but practicality dictates that you are going to waste some and pay for some out of pocket. I guess we just have to adjust the way we work our credits, for those of us who want to continue to use it.
