Let me start off by saying we've been going to Disney for over 15 yrs... last trip was in 2002>> ADR's weren't necessary. We've basically made reservations at all our MUST GO to places and some new ones we want to try...

PROBLEM(S):
I have been calling to get reservations at Boma for Aug 29th for 2 months... nothing available!! How do you think we'll do by walking up? We dont mind waiting and walking around AKL :goodvibes

I have also been unable to get a decent time for Spoodles on Sun Aug 26th... do you think we'll be able to walk up? So far I only have been able to reserve 8:40pm.

We plan to eat at some of the following as well during our trip (but we dont want to make ADR's... too structured)... do you think we'll be able to walk up (obviously with some sort of wait- if any of yous have waited how long??)

DTD Disney area
Kona Cafe
Boatwrights

Finally... we got reservations for Chef Mickey's and Cali Grill  soooo excited!!

.. 3 more sleeps:hourglass

I was at WDW 2 weeks ago. The only ADR I made was for Narcoosee's on our first night and it was great.

We ate at Boatwrights for dinner on day 2 w/ no ADR and no wait.
We ate at Fulton's Crab Shack for late lunch on day 3 with no ADR and no wait.
We ate at Concourse Steakhouse for dinner on last day with <20 minute wait.

Im not a fan of ADRs because I dont like to be held to a schedule, but then again I dont expect to walk into a top spot and be seated immediately. Just eat at off times and you should be fine.

We just returned last week and had an ADR for Jiko for 2. My son and his girlfriend's dinner plans fell through so we decided to take them with us but decided to go somewhere else. I cancelled Jiko and asked if there was any availability at Boma for around 6pm and I was told they were all sold out. I told everyone that we were going anyway. We arrived about 5:45pm, they let me put my name in and we were seated in 10 mins. ;)

If you walk up, espeically at Boma, I would be prepared for an hour + wait.

Whenever I've been to or stayed at the AKL there are always a ton of walk in people waiting at Boma- so a lot of people do it, I wouldn't worry about it.

you could try, maybe a late lunch?? Kona is fully booked, others I don't know about.
ps--for Boma, go early and go over to Concierge desk--we did this at Easter and she asked if we could eat in 5 minutes (at about 5:15PM, or otherwise after 9PM). We chose 5 minutes!

You're going during free dining so it's going to be hard to get into a popular restaurant without an ADR. Can't hurt to try though!

Rather than walking up, I am a believer in calling or going to my resort's concierge before I make the trek to a restaurant that I may or may not get into. Even on the day of (sometimes within the hour), I usually get something, maybe not my first choice, but usually something pretty good.

BTW I've been told "no walk ups" at 50's Prime Time, walked around the corner and called WDW dining and gotten a table in 20 minutes.
