QR code on my member ID card

Just silly a question. I received my new member card for new contract and it has a QR code in the top right corner.
Has this just started and any thoughts on what it might be used for ?
The member number is the only info that shows when scanned.

It's likely just a barcode that was used to ensure the right card was matched to the right letter when it was printed and mailed.

What is the expiration date? Is it Dec 31, 2021? Our card expires 12/31/21 so wondering if they are sending new cards with a later date. Thanks

It's my blue membership card -nothing on my first card but that is quite a few years older - 12/31/21

Reviving an old thread here but my original blue card was from 2016. It had "expires 12/31/2021" like BillPA mentioned. It was getting a bit worn so I clicked the button on the DVC website to have a replacement card sent. That card just arrived and also says "expires 12/31/2021". Does anyone have a blue card that has some other expiration date? Just wondering why DVC would send me a replacement card that says it expires in 3 mos... Does this mean we should expect a new card with some other future date? I've poked around the DVC site but haven't seen any references to expiration of physical cards. Just curious to see what others may have on their cards or know about what happens when a blue card "expires".

All of the current blue cards expire the end of the year. The assumption is that a new card will be sent out though they could just go digital (I hope not but you never know).

They could simply tell people to print off paper copies if they don't have smart phones. I don't think they will go that route but they could.

According to the latest Disney Files they are in fact moving to an electronic Membership Card.
