QR Code for Membership Verification

When getting my Magic Band scanned for entrance to the Animal Kingdom Moonlight Magic event tonight, the DVC CM's handheld couldn't read my band. The CM had me open my phone wallet, and pull up the QR code on my virtual Blue Card. He then proceeded to scan the QR code to verify my information and my reservation.

They have been scanning the QR code to verify membership at Star View Station in DL since that lounge opened, but this is the first time I've seen it used at WDW. Wondering if we'll see scanning the QR more and more as we move forward and if it will eventually serve as the primary basis for Membership Extras eligibility (discounts, etc.), sooner than some have suggested.

I can not understand why they can't scan a MB, pull up my account, and see my AP/DVC-Y and reservation. If they were smart they would also know my preferences and common purchases.

Good to see at least they are starting to use the QR code

As I said, he tried scanning the band, and it just wasn't reading it properly. They DO read the bands to get exactly what you said they should be able to do, it just wasn't working at that particular moment. No biggie. Given there are hundreds of thousands of band chips manufactured, I'm not surprised that a band could get glitchy every now and then, or it could simply have been his handheld.

Regardless, it's good that they have a backup if the Magic Band doesn't read, and I'm hoping the QR code becomes more widely used. It will eliminate most, if not all, doubt as to ME eligibility.

I was at MM last night as well. It didn’t occur to me to let them scan my MB and already had my QR code pulled up as I approached them, LOL…

Must be a mind reader. LOL. They always scan the bands first. This is the first one they’ve ever scanned my QR code (but only after the band didn’t work).

Out of curiosity, why did you assume they wanted to see the QR code? It hasn't been used for anything else at WDW before this, to my knowledge.

Ever since they went to Mobile Wallet (or whatever it’s called), I had been pulling that up to show them the “DVC Y”, at DLR, WDW, and AUL. The actual scanning of the QR code was at the new DVC lounge at DL, and maybe once or twice before that, too. Can’t remember where…

Exactly. The DL lounge was the first place to my knowledge and experience, and I hadn’t heard it being scanned anywhere else. Plenty of questions on here and Facebook as to why it was there and how/when it would be utilized, but no reports of it actually being used before the lounge opened.
