We *might* be visiting Florida this fall with Make a Wish. If approved for the trip, we'll receive a 2 day pass to Universal. I'll have a 10 year old who is big and hearty enough for everything at Universal. I'll have a 6 year old who's a bundle of anxiety and is also only about 40 inches and won't do anything scary at all. And then I'll have a 3 year old who's quite small for his age (30 inches right now and not growing much, and though a growth spurt is possible between now and then... it's complicated). He also can't do anything involving water.
My concern, reading through information about the attractions at Universal, is that other than catching sight of Dora, the 3 year old will have almost nothing to do but sit around while the rest of us do stuff, and the 5 year old will be only slightly better off.
It looks like the 3 YO will be limited to the Dr Seuss Carousel at Islands of Adventure. At the Studios, he can go into Shrek 3D but won't wear the glasses, and that's IT. The curious george play area is out (water), which is unfortunate because he loves George.
(Storm Force Accelatron he can technically ride but it is out since none of the "supervising companions" available will be able to do anything but vomit the rest of the day. Then again, maybe that won't matter much, since it looks like the rest of the day would be spent sitting around anyway.)
Am I missing something? Their website claims that if you're old enough to have fun, you're old enough to enjoy their parks, but it looks like they mean... if you're taller than 3 feet. I'm having trouble NOT seeing our Universal days as torture sessions for the 3 year old - able to see all sorts of fun-looking things, but not able to actually enjoy any of them. Able to watch his siblings do stuff, but not able to do them himself. The day will always be one parent with the 3 YO (and sometimes one sibling), waiting for the other parent to finish an attraction with the other sibling. And while I'd like to think that might mean I could do some knitting and people-watching, in reality, it would mean spending the whole day managing the 3 year old, trying to keep him entertained.
I'm considering asking our Wish coordinator whether it's possible to exchange our Universal tickets for another 2 days at Disney, or for something else in the area that might be more appropriate, but wanted to make sure I wasn't going to regret that. Thoughts?
