PVB LV?

I'm in the early planning stages for our trip next year during F&W. Initially my family of five was going to stay at our home resort, AKV, in a 2 bdr. SV villa. Two family members may not join us after all, and if they do, they'll be staying in their own room.

I've decided that it would be a good idea to save on points and a book a studio for the three of us which will be for me and my two adult sons. We loved the Poly when we stayed there a few years ago, so I think it would be a great option.

Now my questions. Is it worth it to spend the extra points on a LV? We'll be staying for 15 nights so I'm thinking it might be worth it? If so, which building offers the nicest views? From what I've read, third floor would be best. How difficult would it be to snag a LV room at the seven month mark during September?

Thanks!:)

It was definitely worth the view! The noise of the ferry boats drove me nuts, but I am a very light sleeper. The only DVC building with a lake view is Moorea. Request 3rd floor as your main priority so you can see over the bungalows (2nd floor is still visible too).

We had a lake view, and it was a huge disappointment. We requested third floor and got the second. It really is a bungalow view with pieces of lake showing between the buildings. While wearing ear plugs, the ferry woke me at night and again in the early morning. An option may be to get two separate view reservations just in case you have issues with your room.

The question is really: How disappointed will you be if you are assigned first floor? Those first floor Moorea LV can be not much lake. If the point difference to look at a bungalow would detract from your holiday, I'd recommend just booking SV.

Moorea is the only PVB Longhouse that offers Lake View villas, and they are all on the northern side that faces the Seven Seas Lagoon. Tokelau and Pago Pago, and the southern facing side of Moorea have the Standard View villas.

If you opt for a Standard View villa, the views range from garden views, to parking lot views, to views of the Oasis Leisure Pool area. I emphasis "Pool area" because the west side of the Tokelau Longhouse that faces the Oasis Pool will offer views of the pool itself, but you could just as easily end up looking at the back side of the new Bar/Grill building that being added to the Oasis Pool. Also, there are a tiny handful of Standard View villas at the north end of the Tokelau Longhouse from which you can see the Magic Kingdom fireworks. But keep in mind there are 288 Standard View villas at PVB and only a half dozen or so offer a decent view of the fireworks, so the odds of getting one of those villas is quite slim.

Whether a Lake View is worth it is subjective. In November 2015, we stayed in a Lake View studio on the third floor and really liked it. When we return to PVB, I will try to get a Lake View villa again. Here is a link to our trip report; it has lots of photos of our views, the interior of our villa, and some fireworks photos. BTW, several people have posted about the noise levels from the Lake View villas, especially from the ferry horns. For me, the noise was a non issue; it never bothered me.

Worth it will be completely dependent on what LV room you get. First floor? Nope. Second floor? Maybe. 3rd floor. Probably. But our request for 3rd floor also was not met in Oct.

My guess is that as word gets out, everyone is making their major LV request "high floor." That can only be filled for 1/3 of requests.

So the odds are never in your favor.

Thank you so much for your responses. I didn't realize that there's only one building with LV villas. That's really going to minimize the possibility of snagging one at the seven month mark. If there were more inventory I might have tried but I don't think it's worth the hassle and stress. Last stay we were in Tokelau and I was very happy with that location so I may just go with requesting that instead and not worry about the view.
