Ok. I was wondering if anyone out there knows if there is a book you can buy on a guide to tipping in the US & also if there is a book on places to eat (cheap) in the US or mainly California.

Anyone?? I've been told to ask my travel agent, but she doesn't know, so I thought I'd put it to the CB & see if any of you know.:p

Nutsy,

tipping is pretty straight forward. 15% in resturants unless it is really fancy or the service is exceptional. In fact, I use 15% as mu basic guide for most things. For bellhops, $1 a bag, house keeping, about $5/day.

Have you checked out www.lonelyplanet.com ? It has lots of information that could help you out.

Here are some other sites about dining in CA:

http://www.restauranteur.com/

http://www.ladiningweb.com/

http://chefmoz.org/United_States/CA/

Hope these help. As for specific books, I would go to www.Amazon.com and do a search. There are bound to be books there to help you.

Have fun!

Very funny Jason:D

Thank you so much mrsv98.....I'll go check those out..........

I just read recently that !5% was the going rate for restaurants.

Thanks so much.......

From Dan's link.
At the Airport
Skycaps - $1 to $2 per bag.
Am I really expected to tip a skycap for curbside checkin? They are not offering any different service than the ticket agents inside.

We were once informed by an EXTREMELY rude and impatient skycap, that we were to tip him for curbside check in. My husband had every intention of tipping him...he had the tip in his hand, but was still in the process of unloading bags from the car and simply hadn't handed the tip to the jerk yet. Needless to say, he received nothing from us.
