Putting DVDs on Ipod Touch?

Can you let me know how it goes? I'd love to be able to do this, we have a lot of movies that DD14 & DBF would love to have on their touches but we don't have digital copies......

The first DVD is done. 87 minute movie (the clique) took 1hr 9minutes.

I selected to save it to my documents as the destination in the beginning. Once it was done I then went into iTunes and selected add file to library and browsed to my documents to pick the file up. iTunes must have recognized it as a movie vs music because it added it right to the movie library. There is no cover art picture and I had to rename it to the movie title in iTunes. It played fine. I selected iPod as the output in the magic ripper before I downloaded it. I believe they are asking this to see how you will finally watch the DVD. It's a bit grainy but I was watching it on the PC. I assume it will look better on my daughters iPods.

I didn't close the program since you can only use it 5 times like the original poster said. I am now downloading the next DVD but used iPad as the output selection as I will be putting this on my iPad.

I guess by trial and error I will figure out if the iPod uploads look fine on the iPad and vice versa.

I found this to be very simple.

So what you're saying is with this software we don't need a "digital copy" of movies we own, we can use this software to put movies we own into a digital format and watch them on the itouch.

that's what I'm saying.

You must be using a different version of Handbrake then I have, it rips it and converts it all at once, no need to do it separate.

I must, the handbrake I have used has this to say on their website:
What HandBrake Is, What HandBrake Isn't ¶

HandBrake is a GPL-licensed, multiplatform, multithreaded video transcoder.

HandBrake is not a ripper. It converts video, it does not rip it byte by byte. It does not crack the latest DVD copy protection schemes hatched by the studios.

It converts video from nearly any format to a handful of modern ones—that's it.

HandBrake is not everything for everyone for every need. When you desire a ChickenSandwich, search out a local purveyor of prepared foodstuffs. When you desire an über-tool for all your video encoding needs, learn how to use the command line and seek out projects like mencoder.

I don't know where it says this, did you go the giveaway site and put in the code on the "order winxdvd page" ???

It should be unlimited use, just no updates/upgrades to new versions.

FWIW,
Rob

We use MagicDVD ripper and LOVE it....I actually broke down and bought it. I had the free trial for about a year now(because you don't close the screen) but my fifth screen was accidently closed AND they made some new updates to convert the newer movies that have extended versions, etc.
IMO, it's money well spent. I've convereted all our dvd's each to ipod, iphone, and mixmax:cool1:

The 5 time use and the program I am using is the Magic DVD Ripper that amandaraye recommended in post 4.

I downloaded the winxdvd you recommended first but it clearly stated to me it was a trial and only good for 5 minute downloads. Now I don't mind the trial part at all but since I am ripping DVDs I need more than 5 minutes so I didn't try to rip anything at all. I must have downloaded the wrong thing if you didn't see the info I did.

I was just looking for the most simple user friendly free program that I could use. I downloaded all three and Magic worked best for me.

I'm so appreciative of all the info because this has saved me tons of cash.:thumbsup2

Yes, you downloaded something different/ or didn't enter the code on the page I linked to. I have done full movies, not 5 minute clips.

Either way I'm sure you'll find something you like. I just linked that one because you got the whole thing free, and it was a one step process.

Have fun!!

I think if you don't have room on your computer for them, you will run out of room on your touch. And, usually, if you delete an item from your computer I think it deletes from your ipods/phones/pads
Figure a movie will be about a GB.

Rob

Once we're done with the initial sync on our iPods, I change to "Manually Manage Music and Movies". That way whatever's on the iPod stays there until I delete it, and nothing else gets added until I drag it to my iPod.

I've delayed doing anything to convert our DVDs so far because of the space issue (we have a lot of TV shows on our computer), but I'm thinking of getting an external hard drive just for movies -- I could add and delete as necessary, then.

Would I just drag in drop digital copies into itunes...... or how does that work?

Thanks for post all the software. Look like get play with this weekend with the approaching snowstrom.

If you haven't loaded them yet, you can load them directly into Itunes. It's one of the options when you pop the disc in.

We have tons of DVD's and also digital copies. Problem is my DD and DS have netbooks that their iTunes accounts are on. They have no DVD/CD drive on the netbooks. Is there anyway to get the movies into their iTunes account without that drive?

You can buy a cheap external CD drive, that is what I did for our netbooks.
