Can everyone please think hard and tell me every fable, fairy tale, nursery rhyme, old wives tale, etc.... that would have a brother and sister (childern, but adults maybe ok, or a male/female child even if not related) in them as the main characters? I know its an odd question - but I need this for something.

I have thought of Hansel & Gretel and Jack and Jill....and thats it!

Thanks in advance!

"William and Mary,
George and Anne,
Four such children
Had never a man;
They put their father
To flight and shame,
And called their brother
A shocking bad name."

This one is a bit depressing --

"Three children sliding on the ice,
Upon a summer's day,
As it fell out, they all fell in,
The rest they ran away.

Now had these children been at home,
Or sliding on dry ground,
Ten thousand pounds to one penny
They had not all been drowned.

You parents all that children have,
And you that have got none,
If you would have them safe abroad,
Pray keep them safe at home."

Of course, there is the song "Take Her Out of Pity," but it isn't a nursery rhyme. One of my favorites, though.

That's all I can think of, so far.

There's a Russian story, when translated, it's called "Cat's House". It's really about a cat, but there are 2 little cats also pretty involved in the story. They're not people, but they're treated as such.

Also, what about Cat in Hat? Wasn't there a brother/sister in that?

The Grimm brothers wrote one called Brother & Sister... wicked stepmother cursed a spring, brother drank the water and turned into a deer, the sister married a king, the stepmother killed her and substitued her own daughter......

Another Grimm one... (I have a huge book of them, lol)

The Lambkin & the Little Fish ~ step mother turns the girl into a lamb and the boy into a fish

The Snow Queen has a boy and a girl, but they're not brother/sister, just friends.

There's also some versions of the Baba Yaga fairy tales that have children as the protagonists. :goodvibes

THE BABES IN THE WOOD
THE LAIDLY WORM
Little Women
Osiris and Isis Egyptian myth
In fact, all of the myths,Greek,Roman, Scandinavin are loaded with brother/sister stories.

well if you want to get to books the Narnia series are all about siblings.

Cinderella of course

as for shorter stories or rhymes
"there was an old woman who lived in a shoe"
john jacob jingleheimer schmidt
2 blind mice (ok so they are not human but we can surmise that they are siblings nonetheless lol)
Frere jacque

The old "Molly my Sister"

Molly, my sister,
And I fell out,
And what do you think
It was all about?

She loved coffee
And I loved tea,
And that was the reason
We couldn't agree!

Binny, that poem reminded me of a Shel Silverstein poem, I don't remember what it was called, but it was about conjoined brothers, and there was a picture of 2 faces facing opposite directions on one body. There was one line that went "I want to sleep/He wants to pee".

I know the OP was asking brother and sister though, so that wouldn't work. But it sure made me giggle when I was a kid.

This was my favorite when I was a child...

There was an old woman,
Who lived in a shoe;
She had so many children,
She didn't know what to do.
She gave them some broth,
Without any bread;
She whipped them all soundly,
And sent them to bed.

Little Boy Blue, come blow your horn,
The sheep's in the meadow, the cow's in the corn.
Where is the boy who looks after the sheep?
He's under the haystack, fast asleep.

binny - I also thought of the Narnia series.

agnes!
