Pureed foods?

Does anyone have experience with having a chef puree foods for your child. My 4 year old has a severe feeding disorder and has been tube fed for the last 4 years but is now transitioning to regular foods. However, she is only able to eat pureed foods at this point. Today we had a chef from a restaurant in HS call us and he told us he would be able to puree just about anything for us. Has anyone else done this? We are on the dining plan and want to be able to use her dining credits. Thanks!

I do not have experience with this particular special request but I can give you some general suggestions.

When you make your ADRs, be sure to have this noted on every single reservation.

Then ask for the phone number of each restaurant, call ahead at least a week in advance, ask to speak to the chef and discuss your child's special needs. Make sure that he takes note of your date and time of reservation.

I am not sure what your option is for counter service. I know there is a special person to email for allergies assistance and I'm thinking she may be able to help you too. I'm sure someone will come along shortly with that info.

Also, post on the DISabilities board. The people there will probably have many more suggestions about what to do and who you can call to assist you.

Good luck and have a magical trip!

from what I read on the boards here the chefs seem very helpful. I know if you have an allergery to certain foods they will fix you something else, so I would think that this would be the same. I would call the restraunat ahead of time to discuss it further. congrats on her getting to eat food, I am a therapist and love it when we see people get to eat.

Thank you for the replies. I will call today to make sure my DD's dietary needs are noted on each reservation. I don't have a clue what we will do for counter services - we might have to bring baby food with which my dd will not like. What a waste of our dining package, but not a lot of choices.

Thanks again - we leave in 5 days!!

In terms of the CS if you eat them at your resort they are very likely to be able to help you because they have a kitchen unlike most of the CS places. For lunch there are a number of places that serve kids mac and cheese that is very soft if that would work plus you could get applesauce, pudding, or jello for sides. At any CS place if you speak to a manager they will be able to work with you on getting foods if you see things that might work but aren't on the kids menu like soups or mashed potatoes for food allergies/medical issues they are usually pretty accomodating when they have something you find you can eat they'll just ring it up as part of the DDP even if it isn't exactly. Like I was able to get fries with a sandwich even though they only allowed specific sides for the DDP because none of the sides worked with my allergy and they just told the cashier to ring it up so it worked with the DDP.

We had this exact situation when our DD was younger (she's 9 now and eating like a champ). For her first trip she was still on a NG tube and on the advice of her doctor and therapist had always given her homemade purees (something about children with her problem tended to like highly seasoned foods better). Most of the TS restaurants were wonderful about this. Make sure you set it up before hand and there shouldn't be any problems. PM me if you want more info! :)

ETA: I brought a bunch of our homemade food in ice cube trays packed into a portable freezer. I called the airline and had it arranged so it was no problem to bring it on the flight with us. The CR was more than happy to keep it frozen for us.
