Hello, I’ve read @ClaraOswald ‘s thread “Newbie trying to figure it all out” which was so helpful and had so many great insights and advice for purchasing VGC. I thought about posting on her thread but wasn’t sure that was a Good place to post. I bought my first DVC contract end of 2019 and now have 4 contracts for WDW resorts, all with the same October Use Year. I fell in love with VGC during my 1st Trip to Disneyland and now hoping to buy resale VGC. I was thinking since I plan to use VGC points mainly for future California trips then maybe I don’t need to wait for a resale listing with my same use year. Any negatives for not having the same use year with my WDW contracts? I’m afraid waiting for a VGC resale listing with my use year will take a decade or more.

If you plan to use it exclusively at VGC, I think there aren’t really a ton of negatives.

It would be a new membership which would mean you can’t combine the points at 7 months with your WDW contracts for a single reservation without a transfer.

But, since the plan is to just do VGC, I would not worry and choose a Uy that works with when you would visit VGC!

I have three UY with two VGC contracts split between two different UY. It takes a little bit more work occasionally but it is perfectly manageable. If you were buying VGC for the exclusive use at DL then having a separate UY will not be problematic whatsoever. The resort is small so to find the ideal contract in the ideal UY requires a lot of patience. VGC has been lowering to a very attractive price in the current market and there isn't as much stock left as a result. Now may be the ideal time to buy regardless of UY.

I agree with the others...I'd just find a UY that works for when you plan to travel to Disneyland. I hope you are able to find something you like for a good price. We're pretty excited about our contract and even though we aren't traveling for a while...I'm already so glad we decided to do it!

We typically go to WDW in the spring and DL in the summer. Our WDW contracts were all February use year but when we bought into VGC we got June use year, which has worked out very well for us. Even with two use years you keep a single login on the DVC member site; there is a drop-down selector when necessary to choose which membership number you are using (you will get a different membership number with a different use year).

I'd view a new UY as an advantage because you can't accidentally use these points at WDW. They shouldn't be crossing streams anyway.

When you search, it defaults to your home resort, so you'll know if you're trying to use the VGC.

We just went through this process and are awaiting closing now. Our existing points are all the same UY, but VGC will be used only for VGC so it doesn’t really matter that it’s separate. I looked for a suitable contract in terms of number of points and made several offers until somebody was willing to work with me on price. Some sellers really aren’t willing to come down much or even at all. As long as the UY works for your travel schedule it should be fine. We wanted ours for primarily holiday travel, so I looked for a June or later UY for our VGC contract.

I made an offer on Saturday for VGC resale listing and have not heard back. There’s another listing I’m also interested in. Can I make an offer on the other listing (different broker) and see which one works with me first or is it best to work with one resale listing at a time? I def can’t buy both. Even though I’d love all those points!!

Bid away. Until you sign the sales agreement contract you owe them nothing.

Place offers on what you want. Until you come to an agreement and sign the contract, you’re not locked in. Personally, I loved the DVC Sales automated system. I didn’t have to wait for an agent to send our offer to the seller.

I just closed on a VGC resale contract last summer that is not the same UY as my other 2 DVC contracts. It doesn't bother me in the least b/c I only plan to use those points at VGC. I was more interested in getting the number of points I was interested in (50) and grabbed the first contract I saw that had what I wanted. NGL, it was a total impulse purchase, but after the announcements yesterday for VDH I'm really glad I did it.

Congratulations on that purchase.
