Purchasing VGC as Southern CA Resident-Which UY?

My son is considering buying VGC. As a southern CA resident, which UY would be better? Do the blackout dates for residents affect him as an owner? Those are AP holder blackouts, correct?

Blockout dates are based on the APs. Since there are 2 APs available ONLY for so cal residents, if he has either of those, he won't be able to go into the parks (or park in the themepark parking structures) on the blockout dates. He could certainly stay at the resort, though. If he buys a deluxe AP there are fewer blockout dates, but if he doesn't want to worry about blockout dates at all, he'd want a premium AP for that. (so cal residents can make payments on any of those APs, by the way)

But they have nothing to do with staying at the Villas.

UY would only have to do with when he travels, not when he can or cannot get into the parks on his AP. :)

Thanks for your reply. I need some education about these types of AP's. Do most of them block out the summer? I'm not even sure they would purchase an AP, but you never know. Regular CA resident discounted tickets can be used anytime, right?

There appear to be 4 Disneyland Annual Passports (not counting the combined Disneyland/Disneyworld passport).

Premium: available to anyone, no blockout dates. Includes parking.

Deluxe: available to anyone, about 50 or so blockout dates, mainly major holiday times and many Saturdays. May be purchased with or without parking.

Southern Calif AP: available to So Calif residents only, block-out most of the summer, all Saturdays, and major holiday periods. May be purchased with or without parking.

Southern Calif Select AP: available to So Calif residents only, block-out most of the summer, all Saturdays and Sundays, and major holiday periods. May be purchased with or without parking.

They also have a couple of 'Summer Passes' for So Calif residents.

Since I don't live in so cal, I don't really know about the special ticket deals (like certain tickets from Costco). But I don't think Disneyland itself sells any special *ticket* deals to residents...

If they are going to use DVC only for Disneyland Resort, and if they'll be going more than once a year, they will indeed want to look into APs.

Here is the link to the AP info page. Scroll down, and you can click to see the calendar of blockout dates throughout the next 12 months for the 3 APs with blockout dates.

The nice thing is that they can upgrade to a different level whenever they want. If they suddenly find themselves wanting to go to DLR during a blockout period of the AP they have, they can move up a "level". (or if it's just a day or so, they can buy blockout passes for $50 per person per day) The price is NOT pro-rated and the expiration date won't change, but they can upgrade during the year if they need/want to.

But remember, the AP only governs getting into the parks. The resort stay has nothing to do with it.

Thank you for all of this info! I guess UY would come into play for travel dates, and if the travel dates are impacted by AP blackouts, well that is what I'm trying to figure out. My son has no children yet( getting married in Oct), vacation times may change as their family does. Have to really think about all of this!
