We are taking out second DVC trip in January. It is a trip to our original home BLT (although standard view this time :worried:) and our new second home Boardwalk. We are not annual pass holders.

For non-DVC people that buy a package (room, ticket, dining) the tickets are linked to their reservation number and they can book their FP+ and pick the colors/characters of the Magic Bands.

But how do we do that? Do I just buy them on Disney's website (or through the My Disney Experience site)? And I'll get the option to pick colors or bands and then be allowed to make reservations for FP+ at 60 days? Or do we need to do something else? Obviously we have to buy them more than 60 days ahead of time (Nov) in order to make reservations, but how far?

You should be able to purchase tickets from any authorized seller and then link them to MDE. This could be Disney (disneyworld.com, local Disney store, etc), Undercover Tourist, Maple Leaf Tickets, etc. Once your room reservation and tickets are linked to MDE, if you are FP+ eligible you will be able to select and customize your MagicBands for home (US address only) or resort delivery beginning at 60 days from arrival.

The MDE iPhone app now has the ability to "scan" in the barcode on the back of the ticket, or you can just enter the number.
