Purchasing Tickets Before October 16

Perhaps this is the wrong place, but looking for advice. We have 2 trips planned, March 30-April 4 and May 29-June 4. Each trip has different family members.

I have a DVC Platinum AP. Should I be purchasing tickets for DH and DSs before October 16? Or it doesn’t matter.

Thanks.

I believe the exact prices are still nebulous... but going with the theory that Disney NEVER leaves money on the table, I think it would be safe to assume better prices if they buy now.

I just bought a 2-day PH and a 3-day PH for a possible family trip next October. I may need another 3-day PH, but things are really up in the air right now. If something happens and my family can't go, then I will use those two unused tickets to upgrade to two APs for my DH and me for an extended trip in 2021. But I didn't want to take a chance of the prices going up and also having to pick the exact dates to use the tickets in case we have to reschedule.

Sending daughter and grandsons from 3/30-4/6 to Kidani
Should I buy their tickets now to avoid issues with new tiered pricing?

I would if I were you and had the wherewithal to do so. Seems like it would be much less complicated - you'll know you have the right tickets for the right number of days. I'm in the camp of believers that it's unlikely tickets for any time next year will cost less than they do right now.

Thanks just bought them from Disney
Wanted to do UT but didn’t like their confusing rhetoric on linking to magic band and then pick up tickets at guest services, WHY?

You don’t need to pick up UCT tix at guest services....

Was wondering about AP passes. Will they be going up on October 16? I wonder....

They expire now at end of 2019. So bummed I didn’t get a few a few years ago...

I thought I read APs are going up as well. I’m going to buy mine before the 16th....

@ravenclawtrekkie, ticketing CM, posted that their training on the new system did not include anything on APs. So hope is that any changes to AP system or prices will come later.

Yes, Guest Services at IG can upgrade your ticket to DVC Gold AP. Be sure to bring your DVC Member card & photo ID.

We do not know what the actual price of tickets are going to be when Disney rolls out the new date-based ticket prices. I would be willing to bet that overall it works out as higher than they are now in majority of cases. I have a rather long memory and none of it can identify any time when Disney rolled out new prices that were on average less than the existing ones, outside of special short-term promo prices that it sometimes created (like it has done on occassion with DVC AP's).

What concerns me the most is that the info revealed thus far indicates it is eliminating multple-day ticket prices, i.e., where the price per day of the ticket progressively lowers for each additional day resulting in tickets with 5 days costing only $15 more than 4 days and only $10 more per day for the sixth or seventh day. The way the info reads now is that the price of a multiple-day ticket will be the addition of the prices for each single day of the ticket. For example, if you can actually see the price and price calculation shown in that Disney video, it shows an $85 one-day price for a start date in Nov and $334.13 for a four day ticket, which means you will be paying close to $85 for each day. That could mean that for the same period a 7-day non-hopper ticket could cost close to $595, which is $180 more than it costs now. In other words, what you may find if the daily price for each single date you will be there is less than it is now, such as that $85 per day shown in the video, the multiple-day ticket may be less than now for a ticket that is four days or fewer, but will be much higher for 5 days or more. Moreover, it sounds like that if you buy the tickets and then change your dates, you may have to exchange what you have and pay more if the new time you are going is more than the date-based daily prices of the original ticket. Also, you might no longer be able to buy a ticket just before prices go up in the years ahead and then use it for a trip after the prices go up, without paying any increase in prices.

Finally, though AP's have not been mentioned, we have a risk of a huge increase in price in mid-Oct or in early 2019 because Disney usually keeps the AP price for a new AP, starting with the Gold, at an amount that is significantly more than a 9-day hopper ticket, and with an $85 daily price and the extra cost for the hopper, the hopper price for 9 days could be close to $$820.

IIRC, you don't get the calendar for selecting when your ticket starts until after you say how many park days you want. So, there is still an opportunity for Disney to create marginally lower costs to extend a trip. I expect they will continue to do so; making marginal days after the "most desirable" trip less expensive, Disney is better able to lock in vacationers to WDW property vs. having them spend a day or two at Universal.

We can hope something like that will happen. The example that was used in the video did not indicate that but instead indicated one would pay the additon of the separate day prices for each day in the trip. For a 4-day pass (which itself currently costs progressively lower per day after the first day), the example in the video simply charged about $85 a day, which was the day price of the first day.
