Sounds like they are not checking IDs for the most part. But when you click to make reservations you have to check a box confirming that your entire party is a California resident.

If you are talking about park entry right now, All adults (18+) have to be prepared to show proof of California residency. ID check seems to be random. Could be massively embarrassing to be the person holding up the line trying to explain their way out of it. You never know if one day they decide to check more than not.
