I hear purchasing small resale contracts (50-75 points) at some of the more $ resorts (GF, CC, BLT) is getting quite popular. What are the pros to this since these resorts are pretty high point per night to stay at?

Probably different goals for different people. We’ve toyed around with buying smaller (like 75) at somewhere like BLT and go every 2 to 3 years. I’m guessing with 2-3 small contracts you can get in the rhythm of banking and borrowing and rotating those contracts to get home resort priority booking at desirable resorts. Bonus if you can get them all on the same UY and combine them all at the 7 month mark from time to time if needed.

75 points at GFV might be hard for annual trip, but not too bad for every other year. Even every three years might even get you an easier trip. Studios are hard, even at 11 months out.

I wouldn’t purchase a small resale contract at CC for a while. I was looking at some the other day and they’re are all $170-$175 per point for 75 points or less. That is too high IMO.

I started with 60 points resale BWV $87 pp. At the time the minimum direct for a new buyer was 160. I wanted to have DVC but I wasn't willing to add another monthly bill to my family's obligations. I subsequently added on 2 small contracts direct in about 2 years. During that time a 50 pt resale for BCV appeared one Saturday morning for $82 pp. I couldn't resist, I had to have it. When I bought resale had no restrictions, so no need to purchase direct.

Small contracts sometimes go before they are even listed publicly, and they do go for a higher price. Also use year is an issue, it was hard to find my uy on a small contract, so that's the reason for buying the direct contracts.

So to answer your question, for me it was financial. That said, small contracts do command a premium so at the time I paid more per point than someone buying a moderate or large contract. But hey, look at the prices now. So glad I bought when I did.

Many will do this so that they can have some resort advantage for booking there for certain trips. I know people who own BWV or BCV specifically to use for a few nights for F & W every year. Doing that allows them to book at 11 months. If the resort of the small contract doesn't match what else you own, then it might not be worth it without having a specific purpose for owning there!
