Purchasing points at another resort

Here is my question. Currently we have 250 points at the SSR and are excited about visiting twice a year. :cool1: If we purchased from a reseller points (say 50 or 100 or whatever) for another resort (hopefully BCV or BWV) would that allow us to reserve accomodations at that resort eleven months in advance rather than seven months? Does that make sense? :confused3

Thanks.

Where ever your home resort is then you are allowed to book 11 months in advance. In your case you can book 11 months in advance at SSR and if you purchase more points say at BWV that will be considered your second home resort so you can book 11 months in advance there. What you can not do is take your BWV or SSR points and reserve 11 months in advance at OKW, VWL, HH, Vero, BCV. Those would be only 7 months in advance

HOpe that helps.

Ed

Also you can not use your SSR points to book at the BCV or BWV at 11 months even though you own there for the 11 month window it has to be points from that resort

Further to Chucks question -
Let's say he bought the extra 50 BWV points, and wanted to make a ressie at BWV, and the stay was going to require lets say 80 pts, could this be done as he owns a total of 300 pts?

Thanks

You would need to borrow 30 pts from next year to finish the res or I believe you can transfer points from your SSR to your BWV and that would be the once a year transfer for both contracts

If you own points at SSR and buy either an add-on or a new master contract at BCV or BWV, then you will have two "home" resorts. You will have the 11-month booking priority at both resorts, but only with whatever number of points you own at each resort (250 to use at SSR at 11 months, 50-100 to use at BCV or BWV at 11 months). When booking 7 months or less from your checkout date, you can use both your SSR and B*V points to book a stay anywhere, provided there is availability.

You can bank and/or borrow your B*V points to book a longer stay if you are content to stay there every other year or every third year. Another strategy is to book as many nights as you can with your 50-100 B*V points at the 11-month window and then try to add additional nights to that reservation at the 7-month window using your SSR points, if there is still availabilty at that time.

If you decide to buy 50-100 points at BCV or BWV, why not buy through Disney directly rather than resale? There are no closing costs through Disney now that you are already a DVC member, the dues will be pro-rated and you will get current-year points with your purchase. Small contracts go for premium prices on the resale market, you will pay closing costs and may or may not get a full set of points with your purchase, and the seller will want to be reimbursed for current-year dues.

As you say, he could borrow 30 points from the next UY of his B*V contract to get the 80 total points needed to make the reservation at 11 months from checkout.

As far as transferring points, it depends on how the B*V contract is set up. If it is set up as an add-on contract (a subcontract of the SSR master contract) then he cannot transfer points between them. In this situation you can just pool the points from both contracts to use at 7 months out.

On the other hand, if his B*V contract is set up as a second master contract, then he can transfer points from his SSR contract to a B*V contract. That still doesn't allow him to use those transferred SSR points at the 11-month window at B*V, however. That used to work, but MS is now tracking transferred points more closely to prevent point "morphing". Plus, he would use up his one transfer per Use Year on both contracts by doing so.

The other option with two master contracts is to book as many nights as possible with the B*V master contract at 11 months and then make a second reservation at B*V at 7 months out with the SSR contract and then link the two reservations together. The downside is that you are limited to booking whole days from each contract. So, if you have 50 B*V points and you are booking a studio at 13 pts/ night, you can only book 3 nights (39 points). You will have 11 B*V points left over that you cannot use for this reservation, even at 7 months out unless you transfer them to the SSR contract 7 months out.

We had contracts at two different resorts. 285 at BWV & 50 at BCV. It was very difficult do the vacations that we wanted since we booked 11 months in advance most times. I ended up selling the 50 and buying 100 more at the BWV. It was just easier for me to track and book trips, especially big ones. We booked a trip with 17 people using 2 years worth of points and couldn't do it if I had split resorts. We booked the standard view at the BW and they are usually gone by the 7month window.

but, if you don't mind the bookkeeping, any DVC points are worth it!

Lisa, thank you for the info. Given the opportunity, I would much prefer to purchase thru Disney. Would DVC have points available at B*V or for that matter any other resort (not SSR)? And if so, how does one go about purchasing such points? I would think that the whole rationale for "resellers" is that Disney does not have points available.

Thanks. I would be glad to have ANY points at BCV or BWV since our last two trips to WDW we stayed at the BC and the YC. I love that area because it is so convenient.

You can buy any DVC resort directly from Disney, whether you are buying in for the first time or are already a member and want to add on. The latest prices for the "sold out" resorts at WDW are $95/pt for BCV, BWV and VWL and $92/pt for OKW. I'm not sure about the prices at VB and HHI. The minimum purchase when adding on is 25 points if paying cash or 50 if you want to finance. There are no closing costs when adding on. You get full current-year points and pay dues pro-rated from the date you get your points.

Call your guide and tell him/her you want to add on at BCV or BWV (whichever you decide you want) and how many points you want to purchase. Disney will only sell you points in the same Use Year as your SSR contract. If they have points available, you give them your CC number and the points will be in your account within 24 hours. If they don't the have the points available, they will put your name on a waiting list. If you want BCV, it could take a few months to get the points. If you want BWV, you will either get them immediately or within a few weeks or absolute worse case a couple of months.

If you want BCV, call your guide and get your name on the list. If you want a "Plan B", then you should also contact The Timeshare Store and tell them you would like to buy a small contract at BCV and tell them your Use Year. Purchasing the same Use Year will allow you to have Disney set up your BCV contract as an "add on" to your SSR master and that makes it easier to manage your points. And keep an eye on TTS's listings just in case something comes up and they haven't managed to reach you by phone.

Good luck!

Thanks, Lisa. A lot of info there and I appreciate it.

You can book at 11 months with the points youhave available for that home resort. So if you have 200 points at SSR and 50 points at BCV, for example, at 11 months you could book 50 points worth of accomodations at BCV, but you could not combine your total points and book 250 points worth of accomodations at BCV at 11 months.

Now, you could also bank and borrow your BCV points, thus meaning you could feasibly have 150 points at BCV to book with at 11 months.
