If they end up offering free dining when we go, how does that work with park tickets? Do I have to purchase my tickets through Disney as part of my package or can I still buy them through Undercover Tourist? If I can't buy through UCT and I have to add them as a package with the FD can I buy 5 days even though I'm only booked 4 nights?...We are doing a split stay but the second half of our trip we will be renting points from a DVC owner. So we will be doing three park days when being booked directly through Disney and then two park days at a DVC room.

You must buy a package with tickets to get a free dining offer. You can (in the past) buy as short as a 2 day ticket. In your example though, you would buy the length of ticket needed for your entire stay as part of the Disney FD package.

You would,of course, only have FD for the Disney package part of your stay.

To specifically answer your question, you can buy more days worth of tickets thru Disney than the number of nights of your FD stay, up to 10-day max tickets. With Free Dining, the minimum is a 2-day base ticket purchase. There is no rule regarding maximum number of days you can purchase (up to 10 days). It's common for visitors to do split stays, like you are. Truly, it's cost-prohibitive to purchase FD tickets, then a new set of tickets for the other stay. Disney doesn't make you do this. We buy 10-day max tickets from UCT for our entire Disney stay. The 2-day minimum FD tickets that we receive, we have the resort put on separate plastic cards that we label and take home with us. Then, those 2-day tickets can be used for a future Disney trip and upgraded at that time. The tickets don't expire if they are unused. And they are legally able to be sold, if you want to consider that.

So even though I'm switching resorts and staying through DVC points for the second part of our trip, the 2 other park day tickets we have can still be used while at DVC villa? I was worried they expired the way the dining credits do if there are any un used credits....

Correct. Tickets are NOT tied to your resort. You will still be able to get into the parks with your 5-day tickets you buy with your package.

Tickets expire 14 days after first use, unless no expiration has been added.
