Purchasing more points - resale or add on?

I am already an original SSR member, bought in 2004, looking to double my point allotment.

Pretty sure that I want to have the same use year because we generally only travel one time per year and do not want to have 7 and 11 month differences. Do you agree?

I assume that since I already am eligible for all the direct perks - I should only buy resale right? Is there another benefit of buying direct and spending more money that I have not considered?

Also one last question, if I buy same use year but different resort are those points able to be combined?

I would agree with you that resale would be the best way to go. You get many of the good direct benefits already (dining/merch. discounts, TOTW access, ...). You would end up with two sets of points. Direct and Resale. There isn't much difference between them other than only the direct points could be used to pay for cruises, other non-DVC resorts, etc... Most people here would say that these are not wise ways to spend your points anyways. I would also agree to have the same use year to keep it simpler to manage.

If you do go with another resort, you only get the 11 month booking window for points from that resort. You wouldn't be able to use all your points for a given year at one resort until 7 months. You could bank/borrow to make this work for you. Personally, I would go with another resort so that you can get an 11 month window there. SSR isn't that hard to secure, and even the THV's aren't that difficult. I'd pick another resort that you would like an 11 month window for. While it would only be for half of your total points, it would let you secure some of the tougher reservations to get. At the 7 month window, you can combine both sets of points for a reservation. Having a 2nd resort sounds like a good idea to me to give yourself options. I'm just not sure that an 11 month window at SSR buys you anything.

Those are my opinions.

I'm jealous. I would like double points too.... Good luck!

No reason to go direct as you won't gain any other benefits - just pay more for the same. The resale points will be restricted from trading for cruises and the disney collection but the original points you own would remain eligible and all would be eligible for RCI and BVTC.

As mentioned points can be combined at 7 months if you bought different resorts but you could still only use the SSR points at SSR at 11 months and whatever other points you bought would be the ones eligible for the new resort at 11 months.
