Hi All

Am wondering has anybody purchased a laptop in US and brought in back home.Is it cheaper to do and does it work okay.Am looking at buying laptop buy my other half says wait till we go to US but i am not so sure.Any help would be great....:confused3:confused3

I looked into it 3 years ago when looking for 2 laptops. Back then yes model for model retail price were slightly cheaper in US but consider it will have a US keyboard which differs to UK, you would need an adapter to charge or a new power UK supply and then the possibility of import tax if stopped at customs. Also need to check worldwide warranty.

In the end I bought with an offer at Currys £200 cheaper than Dixons even though same company, I also used a discount code and got cashback thru cashback site. worked out cheaper than buying in US.

Laptops are so cheap now, personally I like Toshiba would be very reluctent to buy any other but Tesco have some great prices on Acer. I heard yesterday they are clearing netbooks instore for £129, half price.

I agree with "egg" :goodvibes

The price you can get trhem for in the Uk and the spec is not worth the hassle and the US keyboard.

Also, if you8 buy one witha blu ray player it can be region coded to USA only (some DVD ROM units cannot be altered from original region setting also)

I got my mac book in in Nyc but that was when the exchange rate was a lot better worked out cheaper then but Don't know how it will work out now I had to buy an adapter plug for it at the time it was $10 think they are $15 now :)

I would say with the price of laptops over here now it's not worth bying one really, unless you are after a mac in which case the price difference may benefit you.

With the exchange rate it is not worth it even if you want an Apple Mac. We take a Mac with us in a laptop bag, we have never been stopped at Customs.

with the exchange rate now ull save about £40 on a bog standard mac book, but obv if the rate increases it may be worth a look.

I d say for that sort of saving its not worth it at the mo
