Purchasing addtl. points

Hello Everyone...

We just came back from our 1st trip as DVC members yesterday. We currently have 160 points and are looking to purchase addtl. points. We are very new to this. Does anyone know the best time to purchase, are there any specials going on? I don't know if this is even offered. Also, I read somewhere that you can purchase points somewhere other than the DVC? But I am not sure how that works. We are looking to purchase maybe another 10. Is there a minimun? Any info would be much appreciated.

If you're buying directly from Disney, the minimum is 25 points if you don't require Disney financing and 50 if you do. I suspect there is a minimum because if you're only buying a few points, the profit Disney is making on them doesn't cover the costs of all the paperwork and fees.

Right now there's an incentive of $8 per point off, but that's only if you buy at least 100 or 150 points (I forget which). You're only looking for a few, so that wouldn't apply to you.

By the way, how was your first trip as DVC members? Where did you stay? How did you like it?

We had a great time... We stayed at the BWV. Very Hot and Humid!!!! We stayed for 5 days... We would have liked to stay for longer but we yanked our daughter out of school so we didn't want her to miss too much of school. Out next trip we will take during school break. We loved the BWVs however next time we will see if we can get a room closer to the elevator. We were on the 4th floor. At one point my husband counted the steps from the elevator to the room 246!!!

Other than that it was a great trip

Is that $8 off only for SSR, or does it apply to the other resorts as well?

We had our first trip home in September, staying at OKW. I was amazed at how spread out these resorts are. We bought into SSR site unseen. We really liked OKW but wouldn't stay there again unless we requested a room closer to Hospitality House or rented a car. It was just so much walking...

The minimum number of points you'll find (dvc or resale) is 25 points.

To get 25 points from DVC you'd be looking at $98 per point for SSR, or $92 per point for any other location. (Actually for 25 points, even thru resale you will end up paying close to $92 if not more after you add in the closing costs).
