I have NO IDEA where the best place to post this is, so mods feel free to move it.

My swim suit top (tankini style) DIED yesterday! The fabric came apart and it is unusable. A frantic search today in the land of Parkas and Christmas decorations--about 7 stores total resulted in ONE swim suit my size (Pooh sized), and it was a top only. No problem, my bottoms are fine so it will work if it has to, but the top really doesn't fit my "ample" figure properly so it isn't very comfortable, especially for the water parks. No other options to look here and I leave to soon to order online.

So, will I be able to find a Woman's Plus Size (about 22/24) ON PROPERTY anywere??? We will be going to DTD the first day and I can do some shopping where ever I need to, but with no car and ME I am limited to only Disney locations. I am also not willing to get a cab and shop off property.

Right now price is no object (that is why I didn't post this on the Budget Board)! I just want something that fits properly. Having characters on it is PLUS, not a drawback!!!

Anyone ever seen/ bought a Plus Sized Woman's suit at Disney?

I don't know if either of these will work, but try here:

Summer Sands at Downtown Disney - Marketplace

There are also some shops at Grand Floridian and Polynesian, but I'm not sure if they sell swimwear.

Hope that helps. :)

Love to scrap,
I have 3 disney swimsuits I bought on ebay that have never been worn tried on though, they are labeled a 16 but disney makes them big so they should fit a 22/24 which was the size I was when I bought them. I was going to give them to charity but if you need them send me your email and I will send you pics of them, no charge you would just be clearing drawer space.

I would call each of the places listed above and ask their sizes as well as other stores on site that might be of help. Will you have access to a car? I've read the following and save it in cases of emergency: Go to the TTC (MK) and catch the lynx bus #56. $1.25 each way. It takes you to the Walmart on hwy.192. It's about a 25 minute ride. I know it's time consuming, but we make a day out of it, going to the Osceola Mall, the flea market across form Walmart, the factory outlet mall, and finishing up at Old Town in time for the Saturday Night Cruise (free). A day pass costs $3.50. I'm sure Wal-Mart would have something. Have you considered ordering something and having it shipped to your hotel? Lots of people order water and ship supplies ahead. This doesn't really answer your question but may give you more options!

Hi

I am also a plus size and I have never seen any on site. However, you can order a suit from Lands End (great selection) and have it shipped directly to your hotel, they can even do it overnight. Just give them a call to order it and explain the situation. I am sure this will solve your problem.

Enjoy your trip!

I am afraid not, my SIL had the same problem. Your best bet would be to taxi, if you don't have a car to the nearest Walmart or Target, they will have them.

I really appreciate that but there is just no time for me to get them. Honestly, I am, well, quite ample on top, and really would doubt they would fit me. Even 22/24 is usually not quite right through the top, but any bigger and I can't keep the straps up.

Give them to a charity and let someone unable to purchase great Disney suites to get use out of them.

Thanks!

NO CAR, and I will be by myself with 2 children and am not willing to travel off property by bus, taxi, or any other means. I have promised them plenty of time at DTD the first day and I am not going to short change them on that. Any shopping I do will have to be on property. I am not that desperate so far!

I have thought about ordering from Land's End and having it shipped--I will probably do that when I get back because I need a decent suit, we swim indoors year round.

But I am VERY hard to fit. I really don't want to deal with ordering and having it not work, especially since I would have to pay rush shipping.

I will stick with the cheap option I bought today (probably just stick a t-shirt or tank top over it--will they allow that?) if I can't find anything on property. I just wondered if gift shops like at the Beach Club, or Poly, or even at BB or TL, or the big WoD store might offer me some hope!

You should check out the following websites:

lanebryantcatalog.com
justmysize.com
lanebryant.com
sears.com

I know your trip is very soon, but you can probably have the suit shipped overnight or have it delivered to your hotel. I highly doubt you'll find anything in Disney. I've never seen anything there that I would fit into (bathing suit wise).

Good luck!!

Here's a pic of Summer Sands at DTD so you know what you are looking for:

I couldn't find a direct number, but here is the number for DTD. They might be able to transfer you: 407.828.3056

There is a clothing shop at Grand Floridian (and I believe also at Poly and Contemporary). The shop at the GF, if I remember correctly, gets a little pricey, though. And I'm not certain if they carry swimwear and I cant seem to find the number and I don't have my folder from last trip anywhere near me that might have the name, but if you call GF, they'll be able to direct you. The shops at GF close at 10. :goodvibes

Actually I was down there last year and forgot to bring a bathing suit. I wear an 18/20 and could not find anything at the resort. The woman told me the only place she knew on property was Summer Sands at DTD (at least she told me to try there). I checked it out and they did have a couple of selections but they were way to pricey for me since I don't really use a bathing suit much except on vacation. Just didn't want to spend the $$ for one time. Good thing I didn't as we never did make it to the water parks!

I found a swimming suit at the store in Blizzard Beach a few trips ago when mine ripped! It was a size 22/24 and they had a whole section to choose from. It WAS expensive though, and when I saw expensive I mean, it was like $85.00. I can vouch that the "size 16" from the disney catalog fits HUGE. I wear a 22/24 and it is a little BIG on me on the bottom, but fits perfect on the top and I have some ample stuff up there too.. ;)

FYI...I have never seen a suit over a size 16/18 at any of the gift shops located in the resorts. We were there last October and did a day of resort hopping/shopping and there were very few suits to be had in any size.
Sorry!

Thanks. Sounds like it will be hit or miss. I did find one I like at Lands End so I may have them send me one or two. Gotta talk to hubby about that one!

I will check out the few places mentioned here that are on property, and will make sure to try on a smaller size if it is the only choice.

I swim laps 3x a week so cost is not really an issue, because I don't mind investing in a suit, I will have to anyway when I get back. If it is cheaply made or doesn't fit well, though, it wouldn't be worth it.

If you found one you like at Lands End, go for it. Call them and ask their return policy on swimsuits. Then order three sizes with the plan to return the two that don't fit! That will ensure you have the right size first order!

I wouldn't trust Disney to have Plus suits; you can hardly find t-shirts for Pooh sized ladies.

Another thought, do you live anywhere near an outlet mall? Sometimes they still have summer stuff hanging out. (I feel your pain, I have this strange feeling DD is going to tell me today she needs to get a swimsuit; despite my asking her to look at the sale racks all through August!)

I would stick with Lands End.

I would also order 3 and return two.

You can return the extras at your local Sears to negate the shipping it back to them cost.

Have a wonderful trip!

Sorry about your delema, but I've got a question...........how does a tankini do better than a reg. suit for pooh sized folks? I've often thought they looked cute in land's end catalog but not sure .
Thanks from another pooh baby.

Right, I'm surprized to see you swim laps in a tankini, my tankini doesn't support me at all. I use a speedo for lap swimming (which I do once a year). The only places I can find swimsuits anywear around me are sporting goods stores, but I don't know what sizes they carry. I wouldn't consider myself pooh-sized, but I'm mismatched...11/13 on the bottom, 14/16 on the top, and when I was regularly nursing my DD, a 36G! I hate one-pieces though (annoying when you have to go to the bathroom) and would LOVE a supportive tankini. What brand do you buy normally?

Debbie I LOVE my tankini's! It's all I'll wear now. I didn't swim for YEARS because I never felt comfortable in a bathingsuit. I now wear the tankini's with either the skirt or the shorts, I prefer the shorts. It's just like wearing a tank and a pair of shorts, the tanks usually aren't clingy and the same go for the shorts. So I don't feel like my pudge is hanging out for the world to see. LOL Last September I actually (for the first time since I was probably a teen) went into a public pool (The Contemporary) and I had a blast!!!

I'd recommend a tankini to any pooh size woman who wants comfort and peace of mind. :)

I was SO skeptical when I bought my first one for the same reasons. The place I went didn't have any one pieces that fit right so they convinced me to try the tankini. The one I have is very similar in style (no brand bought a factory outlet store) to the Sport Tankini sold by Lands End--high neck (so nothing hangs out!) and shorts ( love the skirts also, but don't have one). I do have some problems with needing to pull the top down if I jump straight into the water, but I do that quickly underwater, or hold it on the way end! For laps it works fine. I don't get aerodynamic speed, but a Speedo wouldn't help me much with that anyway!

I love the 2 pieces because it makes bathroom trips so much easier and getting dressed and undressed in locker rooms can be done much more modestly. This is especially nice for water park trips! The shorts area really more comfortable for me and help me look much better. In a traditional one piece I just look like a stuffed sausage--the high neck with shorts style helps hide many sins!! Especially in dark blue or black. Since the top hangs a bit loose you don't have that "tight across the fat--look at the rolls and bulges" look!

The one I have/had had soft cups and a wide bottom elastic band on the "bra" in it and it really seemed to provide enough support for what I needed. It wasn't perfect, but the "girls" sayed in the bra at all times--they hung low, but at least they never fell out! I am an underwire girl, and would really prefer that in a suit, but unless I can find someone to custom make one I dont' think that will happen in a high neck style, plus I am not sure that would be comfortable for exercise swimming.

And after 2 years of that suit it was time for it to say good-bye, it really did give it's all! The part where the fabric actually fell apart was the part under the most stress daily--the outside fabric around the bra area!!!

For my type of use, swimming with my kids, water park trips, and 30 mins of light freestyle laps 3x a week the tankin works just fine. If I were to start swimming more intensly I might have to go with a Speddo style, but hopefully if I get to that point, I will have actually lost some of my "plushness" and it wouldn't be a problem

Honestly, I have never even looked at Speedos because I assumed they didn't even come it my size!
