Purchasing a Sorcerer Pass first time AP holder question

We are DVC Members as of December 2020. We had a wonderful Welcome Home trip this year and I’m starting to plan our 2022 trip for 10 nights which will begin the Wed before Thanksgiving next year. Our 2023 vacation will be 7 months later so we have decided to purchase a Sorcerer Pass. Unfortunately, the Sorcerer Pass has blockout dates for the Wed Thurs Fri and Sat of our Thanksgiving trip. In order to avoid that I was hoping to purchase a multi day ticket and a day before the multi day ticket expires I would upgrade it to an annual pass so we won’t miss out on park days due to the blockout dates. I was wondering if this is possible? Or if there is some scenario I am missing that would prevent me from doing so?? We are a family of 6 so upgrading to an Incredi Pass would be a lot more money and not a cost effective option for us. So I’m just trying to figure out a way to make this work in our favor. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

They used to allow this. But all information so far is that they closed that loophole and it won’t be allowed.

Of course, we won’t know 100% until this Thanksgiving or Christmas and someone tries it and is either denied or allowed.

But, I would assume it will not work and I’d plan on needing the Incredi pass

From what I understand, if the pass you are upgrading a ticket to is blocked out for those dates, you cannot apply the ticket used on those dates to the cost. However, there seems to be many things - especially with AP's - that have not been consistently "enforced".

FYI we do have some data points, from people who used a regular ticket to visit over the October 1-3 weekend and then tried to upgrade to a FL resident AP that had those dates blocked out. They were not allowed to upgrade. So I think it’s pretty certain that Disney has closed that loophole. Sorry.

Thanks for sharing. I had not seen those reports. I agree…the loophole seems to be closed.

FWIW, the situation you describe is not only possible but recommended by CMs at Disneyland in CA. I did that very thing a couple weeks ago, just had to wait until the end of the day, when we would not be re-entering any park, to do the upgrade. So if you're planning to purchase the multi-day ticket anyway, I'd sure give it a try.

Thank you! I’ve decided to purchase a multi-day ticket for us. I have 2 in college so they may not go on both trips anyway. :)
